Games Won't Launch After Moving Them
I moved all my games to a larger hard drive because I was running out of space on my smaller one, and now most of my games just won't launch. When I moved them to the new hard drive, I moved every one of my steam files over. When I try to start games either through steam or double clicking on my desktop, steam will show that I'm launching it for a couple seconds and then go back to having the "Play" button. I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling, verifying integrity of files, making new accounts on my computer, disabling steam overlay, and none of these have worked. If anyone has any ideas on what I could do, please let me know.

Also if it helps, some games like Team Fortress 2 and CSGO will still launch and I'm mainly having trouble with games like street fighter V and Guilty Gear Xrd. I didn't have these problems before moving my steam files.

How exactly did you move them?

Because just moving the files will not help, they have registry entries and a path that Steam follows to find them. Make sure that your steam properties for each game has the correct path to locate the game.

Shouldn't it be fine if I reinstalled them through steam though? After reinstalling them steam would know where they are and should be able to launch them right?

Are you sure the new location for the games is being ignored by your security programs such as antivirus or others ?

You might need to add new exceptions to such programs, since you changed the path where they are now installed.

I know this tread is old but what fixed it for me was verifying the integrity files

HOW did you move the game from the SSD to the HDD exactly ?

This thread is old, so some things have changed in the Steam client but the client has a way to move games that you have installed, when you have more than one library.

If you manually moved the game files, that's also a problem, as there is an .acf file in steamapps that also had to be moved properly. (EDIT...Although to be fair, this would not allow you to verify the files as you said you did, as Steam would not be able to see them)

If not, Steam cannot even see that you have the game installed.

So it really matters what exactly you moved and how you did it.

Hi I'm aware this thread is old, Hoping someone is still subscribed to this thread. I am currently experiencing this issue, I moved a large portion of my games from my SSD to a new larger HDD due to storage issues. I transferred via the steam settings tool and now games on the HDD will not launch, steam says they are running but nothing actually launches. I have transferred some back to the SSD and they launch just fine, I have verified file integrity and steam says they are fine yet They still will not launch. I am very frustrated with this issue and this thread is the only related article I was able to find

Did you make sure the new location on your HDD is being excluded from any security software such as antivirus or others ?

That could possibly be the issue. See here :

Thank you for assistance, Wasn't an issue of firewall, simply required a twice over validation, the transfer must have missed a few files
