Steam Not Utilizing My Gigabit Connection
So I upgraded my Xfinity Services a while back so that I could have gigabit speeds, but I seem to be having issues. My Xbox One X seems to get the Gigabit connection no issue, even my phone on the WiFi is getting about 600Mbps. I do a Speedtest and on my PC I seem to get right around the high 800 to high 900s on my Ethernet connection, however steam has only been averaging about 15MB/s which is about 120mbps. And another strange thing is that # seems to jump to 50MB/s right before falling down to about 1MB/s. Sometimes the download cuts out all together and just sits at 200KB/s. Not sure why, and I can't seem to find a solution. I have tried switching the download locations, but had no effect. I even upped the Priority in Task Manager, but still nothing. I've also noticed on Origin my downloads seem to be much faster and stable, but still not Gigabit. I usually average in the 50MB/s on there. Anyone who can help me would be appreciated.

Some more details listed there.

It's kinda sucky to see users with a Gigabit connection having to suffer.

How many did you try, and did you try some very, very far away from you ?

Well I'm looking at it, may have to call my ISP because my PC is definitely not even being pushed to its limits. Currently installing GTA V and my CPU sits around 5% Utilization and my Disk is pushing a consistent 25%.

I've tried about 4 close by, should I try some further away?

1) steam can obliterate your gig connection without breaking a sweat

2) your issue is you are either CPU of IO limited

Check perf mon and track both your CPU and disk IO. Most likely you’re Disk IO limited

CPU is currently at 35% utilization and disk is at the same, did some port forwarding and its seems to have improved the stability, still only getting 40ish MB/s. I appreciate everyone's help, I'm going to be contacting my ISP shortly.

If you’ve got a multi core system the cpu will cap out on a single core basis because the recertification of the files are single threaded

hello. speed test kinda suck. The best way to do a speed test is to removed all devices and do a freash start on your pc with no programs running.. The other way is to spend 3k on a dsam but thats not going to happen.. When your download a game what does task master tell you?

goto services on your windows search bar and disable Super Fetch

ALSO please do not call your isp... i worked for the cable company for 5 years.. i only had it happen once where a customer had slow speeds and it was our issue. note he was only getting 10mbps on all devices.. You, your self already verified your connection is working as it should be.. The problem is your computer.
