So how does valve deal with me using a VPN
I live in a country where any site that isn't facebook/youtube/steam" is blocked ..no really like imgur ...reddit ...anything else you can think off is blocked so I have to use a vpn at all times.

I wanted to use this browser vpn extension but its so bad, i'v used 10 different ones and they all keep disconnecting so eventually got a 1 year key for hotspot shield from a trade "Apparently it was in Humblebundle once"

So is valve fine with it ? I mean I wont use it to buy games or region locked games when a game is region locked for me i just lose all interest in it.

but sometimes I hear people getting locked out of their accounts because they kept using a vpn while having steam client opened, is there any truth to this ?

i ALMOST screwed up and bought the 3 games "Total price $7" back in halloween sale while vpn is opened, had to close it and restart steam just to be sure.

if i bought them was that against the rules ? my currency is in USD and the vpn I use makes it that as if im in america and its also USD.

Don't do those or bypass any region restriction in a game and you are fine.

This gets posted here very often. What the good 999999999 said is correct.

Ah thanks well I dont have to worry about it anymore.
Honestly I only use vpn to use reddit/imgur/steamgifts if those weren't friggin blocked by this stupid internet i'd have no use for it, i hate how it hinders my already slow net speed and makes it even slower.

i just worried a lil cuz i heard some people say its against TOS And everytime i go vpn it disconnects steam for a couple of seconds, though i understand its due to the change of the IP And all that but still had me a bit concerned that valve might detect it and think im doing something shady

You agree that you will not use IP proxying or other methods to disguise the place of your residence, whether to circumvent geographical restrictions on game content, to purchase at pricing not applicable to your geography, or for any other purpose. If you do this, Valve may terminate your access to your Account.

From our agreement with Valve.

What they are saying is, don't use a VPN for hiding your place of residence, or any other shady use of one. If you are not doing it for bad reasons, they don't care.

EDIT..The key word there is "whether".

yeah I read this but the "Any other purpose" had me spooked since my purpose was to use my google chrome browser and had me worried that it was one of the reasons : P

They supposedly don't care if you're not using it to circumvent pricing - e.g. to buy games cheaper than they are in your country (US pricing is lower than e.g. Australian). A VPN is often used by corporate people to connect to their offices - effectively meaning some steam game can be used to penetrate the corporate network from inside. Steam doesn't specifically hunt for VPN or proxy as such but your account popping from different countries IP's may toggle extra attention.

I know. We see this here all the time. That's why I link the post by the retired mod that I gave above. It explains how "for any other purpose" is related only to disguising your place of residence.

honestly I thought about using vpn to buy ...my store uses USD prices, exactly like in America
my currency is not usd ...USD went up literally 500% in price so to explain it a $20 game back then is like $150 for me now so I just stopped buying games all together completely :\
but i wont do it ..not worth the account lock..too scary for me.

used to get my games from cheap russian trades but region restriction is gone now XD

I hope that most publishers set the price by the time it happens. I know it will be a headache for many to see no was of purchasing a game.
