Garry's Mod and texture error
Hello, I recently saw that in the Garry's Mod (game that I don't have, but I want it), there is a texture error on certain maps, and that it is required to have the Counter Strike: Source, for textures to load (textures are required from Cs: S for the gmod). But I saw a lot of people leaving reviews on the gmod, however they didn't have the css, so my question is: Is there a way to play gmod correctly without buying the css?. Please, if anyone knows, help me with this because I can't buy the Gmod and the CS: S. Thank you.

No.

In order to use the textures, models, maps, and other resources you MUST OWN the games in question. Most mods require Counterstrike Source, which is why Gmod is often bundled WITH it.

Anything else (ie: 'download this pack for the game') is illegal because it's theft. You have to own and install it.

You are so wrong.... They are free to use.
Game servers won't even run at all, if assets are behind paywall only. That would be huge security risk too.

@OP there is a way to use those assets through SteamCMD, but it does not mean you get playable CS:S. You better go to ask this on Gmod forums, they will help you.

They are not free to use. SOME textures come with Gmod now - but any game assets that you must normally pay for a game, MUST be legally acquired. This has always been the case in the 12 + years I've owned and used the game.

I am confused, can you somehow install the textures of the CS: S without buying the game?

In theory yes, but that would be software piracy. That can get your account terminated and Valve could file charges because you were stealing their game.

It's only about 10 bucks right now on Steam. If you don't even own Garry's Mod yet, just wait for a sale and get them both or one while on sale.

I live in Argentina, and the dollar is very expensive here. Both games would cost me 260 AR $

You could simply wait for the next sale. Too bad that you missed the sale that ended just four days ago.

^^ like I said, that's why they bundle the games for some sales.

Any and all Valve products that you want to use assets for like half life 2 and portal and l4d or day of defeat source etc, those must be purchased. That's the only way to keep it fair: they made the assets, not some guy that found a way to crack them online.

MANY assets are shared between source games, however, so you'll see a lot of them in numerous places already. Each brings their own flavor to the game though, I highly recommend DoD:S for the realistic items. CSS is also very good to own for other mods, some are very good but you can't play them without having that game.
