Credit Card Number Stolen
Just a warning and FYI to everyone.
After entering a new CC# for a funding source on my steam account, within the hour the info was used at several online locations and phone apps. There could be a fox in the henhouse at Steam/Valve.

Be wary, folks. Use paypal.

I just hope my bank gets all the funds recovered. I am certainly not rich or well-off by any stretch of the imagination and this will definitely hurt me if all the charges aren't reversed.
I sincerely hope it happens to no one else.

edit: people can think whatever they want of me. I just wanted to warn others. If you don't care, don't bother attacking me, you're just wasting your time.

What proof do you have that the compromise was because of your Steam account ?
Sir Sim, Esquire 3 ENE 2020 a las 23:13
considering it was the only place I added that credit card number online.... I don't see how it could have been found anywhere else.

You said "online". Do you by chance have any case where the card number might have been compromised in another way, for example, you using it in public ?

Just because your number became compromised right about the hour you added it to your Steam account, that does not really prove that Steam was the compromise. Just saying.

Then as the helpful politediligence said, it sounds like a keylogger could very well be the issue.

Have you checked your PC for malware? A keylogger could certainly do the trick. I doubt any employee at Valve would be stupid enough to steal credit card information. I also tend to think if they were stupid enough to do it, they would seek to maximise their profit by stealing thousands (or tens of thousands) of card details, not just one.
clean as a whistle. and it only takes one fool to try this trick out a few times in the hopes that he catches someone who won't notice it in time to discretely profit.... It's less likely to be noticed in small instances as large ones, like you mention, are far more noticeable.
You are far too trusting of people in that case.

Nah, we just know that so far, there is no certain proof in this case that someone at Valve has stolen your credit card number.

Kinda jumping to conclusions there, as that is a pretty big statement to make without certain proof of someone at Valve doing anything malicious like this.

believe what you like. It's not like you actually care about anyone other than yourself anyway.

Right. Because we are posting here in our own free time trying to help other users and not just you.

This is easily proven by looking at anyone's post history. Feel free to do that if you question our morals, and before you do, please.

What about your phone ? How exactly did you enter the card number and be specific, if you would like to have a friendly discussion on the matter.

That's why there is a quote feature, so we know who exactly you are replying to.

What did you use to scan the PC for infections, exactly ? Let's try to focus on the topic at hand and not have things go sideways by getting angry at each other, please. We do want to try to help.

Let's be real, if a Valve employee decided to steal credit cards numbers, I'm pretty sure that we would see hundreds or thousands of people making an outrage here. It's pretty hard to believe that this rogue employee decided to only target you for whatever reason.

Anyway, if you really got frauded, you should waste no time to report it to your local authorities as well as your bank.

I did that, duh.
but like I already said, whatever. I just wanted to let others know that there's a possibility of some bs going on. way too coincidental.
If you'd rather say how incredulous it is, that's not really helping considering the facts of the matter at hand and what already actually happened.

What facts ? You don't have proof that anyone at Valve has stolen your credit card number.

I have kaspersky, avast, and malwarebytes running at all times. I also regularly use superantispyware, zemana, and GMER.
