Can I gift games to my purchase banned Steam account?
I have a purchase ban on my steam account because onr of my family members called into steam and told them the card was "unauthorized" so they banned my account until the 30th of January. I would like to use my Steam gift cards that I got for Christmas to get some games but can't do that on my main account obviously, can I do it with an alt account then gift the games to my main account?

Edit: Look I don't think you guys understand but there is NO money to be owed. All that happened was the card got taken off my account because it was noticed as "unauthorized" so therefore it is not a chargeback. Jesus...

Edit 2: Steam removed the lock off the account and it was NOT a chargeback. Have a good Christmas stop commenting here

No it's a date that the account gets released to buy stuff again from the community market

It doesn't say anything on how I owe them money, which I don't.
you may want to post the exact message from steam. we have seen enough people think they will be able to buy on their accounts after a date has past only to find out that date was a deadline to fix a chargeback.

as others have said, this sounds like a chargeback and your account can be permanently locked if the chargeback is not fixed by the date given.

and a chargeback costs steam money (25 to 150 or more per chargeback)

I already have posted to full message, I'll post it again here.

Yes please paste the *EXACT* WHOLE message. Remove any identifying names/numbers.

What you have stated, that the 'card was taken off', is a chargeback.

Now you're trying to say that it's a cooldown for the market? Which is it?

Because you should be extremely aware that if it IS a chargeback, that account WILL NOT be using the market.

You have until Jan 30th, which is a month to reverse the chargeback.

They need to contact PayPal and give back the money.

But that PayPal account is banned from use on Steam forever.

your family member didnt call steam, they called whatever company you used to pay for stuff on steam. that company took the money that steam was promised and told steam "this purchase was not authorized". steam wants its money, and steam probly got hit with a bill for over $100 for your "unauthorized" purchase. do you really think steam wants to keep doing business with you after that?

A chargeback is when the bank is told a transaction was done without the authorization of the card holder. They issue a charge against the store/vendor to recoup the payment they made on behalf of the card holder. This comes at a cost to the store/vendor from the inclusion of a chargeback fee.

In order order to correct this with Steam, someone needs to contact the bank and have them reverse the chargeback.

Which means, "give Steam the money that you originally told them you'd give".

If you used someone else's card, that's between you and that person, but that money belongs to Steam. Whoever holds that card must call the bank, and get that settled before that date. As we've been saying: that is a chargeback and the results will become permanent at that point.

Insulting people is probably a good way to help ensure that they will not explain how to fix it.

This is why you should not use payment methods on your accounts that are not in your control.

A family member called in and said yeah they weren't making purchases on this account using that card so Steam took the card off the account (fraud) and applied this temp ban

The message from support clearly states that "purchases on this account have been confirmed to be unauthorized".

That means that.........well.......some purchases were made that were unauthorized.

Purchases were made with the card that was taken off the account.

Get those purchases back onto the card, because that's *exactly* what a chargeback IS.

And it was explained from the link posted before :
