Friend got banned for playing spacewars
Recently, one of my pals on steam got the game "spacewars" and downloaded it without knowing the effects. Later to get banned for playing it and lost almost all of what he owned. I wanna know if there is something I can do to help him out.

He didn't get banned for playing Spacewar itself. That's not how it works.

:qr:
Most likely had his account suspended for pirating games. That's what SpaceWars is known for.

We don't really "own" anything here on Steam. It's all based on a pretty commonly seen software license agreement, with just about all software these days :

https://store.steampowered.com/subscriber_agreement/

If anyone violates that agreement, they can take action appropriately. We can't know for sure what your friend did, but if his account broke the terms of the agreement, then that's surely relevant. Nothing you or anyone can do about that, if so.

He has to work with Support, if anything can be done....with the strong emphasis on "IF".

Thanks for explaining it a little more and helping!

You are welcome. Thanks for the inquiry and kind replies, too.

Some users do admit to actually playing Spacewar, but there is an exploit that has been mentioned here that I won't go further into detail about, for obvious reasons.

We don't know what caused the issue with your friend's account, so any guesses would be just that...guesses. He or she can make a new account, if all else fails.

To clarify, there is no such thing as an automatic ban just for playing Spacewars. As already mentioned, it is associated with an exploit to pirate games on Steam. Of course, you may want to consider the possibility that your friend is lying to you, as he could have been banned for any number of things, fraud, account selling, cheating, community conduct, etc.

Also, it's possible that your friend* as you say, was targeted by a scammer, who told him he was going to be banned, had him click on a link which installed a trojan on his computer and then used an API key exploit to steal his items.
