My account was randomly logged into on Wednesday and i have no idea how it happened
I read a ton of questions and i know for sure this account is mine. when i login they send me the same steam guard email but with my IP and not the Ecuador IP i got on Wednesday. So i changed my password back in July before this happened to secure my accounts because i thought i was hacked. Turns out i just switched my email alias username and the old username was just being used my someone else being recycled after 30 days so that made me super scared and stressed since July.

I've been getting over that but now it seems someone tried to log into my steam account using the correct username and password and it started my fear all over again. I have changed my password again after it was logged into as well as the email password nobody has tried to log into it yet but all the stories i hear on here of people being targeted many times. I hope i dont get another email from another country anytime soon and its lucky steam guard is there as a safety net also i cant use 2 step authenticator without a cell phone number.

Mostly im just trying to find out how they got my password so easily because i never typed my password for steam in anywhere except the website when i changed my password back in July i did malware bytes scan and avg scan avg came back clean and malwarebytes got rid of one program called amazon.assistant or something that was malicious i dont know about computers very much but i also quarantined 139 threats to be sure right now im just trying to keep my self in a good mood about this i get way to paranoid please explain how he could obtain it ?

Please tell me everything i can do to check and prevent it a second time i really dont think i need to change my email passwords because nobody has logged into my email in recent activities either except my computer it seems like the hacker just picked up my password tried to log in once and then stopped seems very pointless especially with steam guard and him not knowing my email but i did change the email password anyway.

Цитата допису And yes, there are cases where there can be no virus. Using third party sites, for example, and freely entering Steam login information there. Describe this "little blue icon" exactly, please ? Malwarebytes runs automatically on boot, depending on your version, and has a little blue icon.[/quote:

it has what appeared to be a white arrow pointing down in the top left corner and the center was hard to see to be honest was like a globe or cube light blue box .

but im sure nothing will happen by monday and ill be able to see if they figure out if inside my system may have a virus and im sure i never typed my password or username anywhere else except offical steam sites

and i dont think i have been VAC scammed ? he just got the password 3 days ago when i wasnt even using steam i was playing rim world the last two weeks before and never had to use my password anywhere

The VAC scam threads were just examples to show you how some users can get themselves into trouble with their account, where there may not be a virus involved.

And if so, Steam Guard won't do anything. That's why these ways of scamming and hijacking are becoming more and more seen here, because they get around the mobile authenticator.

IF the user allows them to. These scams and hijacks require the user to make the mistake. Because otherwise, the bad guys cannot get around mobile authentication.

It's even worse if you don't have mobile auth. on your Steam account, as you are more at risk, depending on your activity on the internet and Steam.

You would need to post a screenshot of the "blue icon". You can upload it to imgur.com for free, and link that here, if you wish.

So far, it sounds like maybe just a programs icon when it runs on your machine. But I cannot say for sure. Need to see it.

im sure the blue icon is nothing im hoping the computer repair place can figure it out on monday and i cant do mobile auth because i dont have access to a mobile device i only own an ipod touch. so are you telling me i might be VAC scammed ? it did tell me on steam guard he didnt get full access so i should be fine and not a VAC scam but maybe i should ask how to stop a VAC scam from happening to me i hope thats not the case i really wanna just relax the next 2 days maybe play some games and on monday get it checked out i got anxiety over this but i shouldnt be so worried right?

No, I am not telling you that you might be VAC scammed. I am sorry I posted that here now, as I don't want to confuse you or cause any confusion at all here.

Just don't enter Steam login information on third party sites. If you don't do this anyway, then ignore what I am saying here. Don't click on links, unless you are sure where those links go and are careful of who those links are from.

This can also help :

Yes, I saw in your OP that you cannot use moble auth. Again, I was just showing you examples of how some of this works where Steam Guard won't protect you as that is not what it does or how it works or what it is for.

ok sorry i dont wanna worry about a VAC scam then because i did not type my password or steam info into a third party site lol just wanna not worry about that sounds scary but yea best thing to do is get the computer repair to clean it and like the only way he got this password is a keylogger or maybe nothing at all?because i checked with free avg and malware bytes and did delete some threats today but the computer repair guy said amazon.assistant isnt malware even though it was marked as that still got rid of it as well and he was surprised i had 139 threats.

but also like the guy said happened to him before that they just guessed his account password and username but never tried to log in again which im really hoping i never get another email from them so i hope i can just relax till monday nothing bad is going on to my account right now i havent gotten any emails from steam and im using the account right now i just need to relax mostly till monday

So far, what happend to you is exactly what I described earlier. It was simply someone making a mistake, and then Steam Guard doing it's job and preventing them from accessing your account.

Because they tried to log in (accidentally, maybe) from a computer where your account was not authorized to be log into from.

That is what Steam Guard is for, and how it works. So to me, it really just sounds like nothing, and Steam Guard was just letting you know in case.

Same thing I saw years ago, from what you said.

You dont need phone number on the device. You just need a phone that can receive sms. And a device for the 2 factor that has internet access (for setting it up first time).

okay ill try to believe it was a mistake i have been so ♥♥♥♥♥♥ anxious about this i threw up this morning because of nerves i get really worried about because i dont know how he guessed my password but i should just be calm and wait till monday ? nobody has tried to do it again my passwords have been changed but the question still digging in my mind about how he discovered the password so easily but so far there hasnt been any attempts to take my emails it was only steam but i really just need to pull through till monday and maybe it was just random which kinda doesnt help me feel better because it seems impossible for it to just happen randomly but thank you for the help the computer repair told me i shouldnt panic too much over this but its really hard not too im ruining life lol

i told him i download mods and hacks for minecraft and i used to download music so i have tons of garbage files i need them to get rid of that avg and malwarebytes doesnt do because they are just garbage files but maybe there is a virus under radar still? but thats also hard to believe i just dont know what to think anymore ? i should probably show them this conversation to help them figure out how it got my password they also said someone probably phished me but honastly i dont think it was that because i never used my password at all around the time i was hacked i used it once when i changed it back in july then logged in and never typed in down again then suddenly got an email a month later someone tried to log in but please just keep me calm dont get me worried about something else please just help what u can its very appreciated :(

A cellphone to receive the code to enable the auth app on the wlan attached device. After that you dont need a phone or even wlan again (for the app codes to get created).

Just dont use a phone number that isnt yours!
and as for the blue box it only pops up for a milla second i cant screen capture it that easily but i guess that sounds a little suspicious? when i told the computer guy the scan had 139 threats he said woah. so im guessing over the last 5 years of downloading music hacks for minecraft i may have gotten an advanced virus that hidden from detection? maybe not but the computer guy did say downloading minecraft hacks is targetted by malware and such just sucks that i gotta wait to fix till monday. but in the mean time nothing bad had happened since the incident on tuesday but yet i just worry like a bastard ill try to stay calm thanks for helping continue to let me know everything you can without making me scared lmao

You should really watch/read how to reinstall windows, and how to create a partition just for the os.

Look, the internet is a place where you can find answers to most questions.
Especially these kind of questions.

Just try it with questions you have.
When i had to learn how to install an operation system, or reinstall an operation system, or creating a partition, i didnt have internet to ask the questions i had.

I saved the files i wanted to keep, and just did it.
But you can even watch a video about that. It should be way more easy for you than it was for me. While i found it easy back then already.

Backup your documents folder, or savegames folder from games that dont save there. Backup your whole steam folder. Just make sure there is no virus in the backups.

No idea what the 130 malwares have done that you found. It would only need 1 to mess up things.

it wasnt malware it was called just a threat like possible malware they called them PUP possibly unwanted programs so i did get reid of those in quarantine and though it may be easy i think computer repair can navigate easier with this laptop im really leaving it in the hands of someone with more knowledge ill tell them to do what you told me tho il get them to back up and restart everything and i always had these malware threats it only happened recently that my account password was discovered its still really confusing because i never did virus scans before and never had anything stolen just recently my steam password was found and it just made me so paranoid
