External HDD issues with Steam
Has anyone ever had issues with External HDDs on Steam where you have a bunch of games installed on your External HDDs but your games seems to "not be there" for X reason when you know you had them downloaded?

This has been going on for me since a little more than a month now, where my games are downloaded but needs to have files rediscovered.

I had it checked on Crystaldisk and did a Checkdisk last week with no errors whatsoever.

My External HDD is a Seagate 8TB Backup + Hub and was bought this summer 2018.
I am using this external hard drive because I have a lot of games (at least 1.8TB) and tend to switch from my computer at home to my laptop when I'm at my job.
Also makes less to hold on Internal HDDs, my laptop being 1TB HDD and home PC being 4TB HDD.

Anyhow, anyone with a solution would be more than welcome to give some help.
Thanks!

That is what I was kinda afraid of. I did read you whole post, and wanted to say thanks for the time to make such a detailed reply.

I have a bad habit of going into to much detail :P its funny I am on this Discord with a few online buddies and someone says something and I start typing out a detailed reply and in response to the "This User is Typing" I am often greeted with "Seraph, that question does not require as long of a response as you are typing!"

ehh, granted is probably why my essays were always among the highest graded back in school..

I have actually been told the same thing here and it was good advice...too long -winded posting. I try to make mine shorter, but getting the details across is often difficult with a short post, as there are often just too many variables.

Anyway, sorry for goiog off here a bit. Thanks everyone.
Steam should really bring more attention to this and get something done for it.

It's not a Steam issue. It's a user issue. They cannot fix that.

To be honest, I don't see how this is an user issue.

It's been completely explained and even linked to here in the thread. They clearly warn about using externals with games, and we explained the issues it can cause.

Yes, some do it fine, and it works, but you have to set everything up perfectly and make sure these potential issues don't happen. Those were also in the support page that was linked.
