Discord transmitting in-game sound to others through headset
So I've never posted here, and I'm not even sure if this is the proper place for this, but I know that most on Steam also use discord. Just wanted to share a little experience with a problem that has been plauging me for over a year.

For a while now I've been using a Corsair HS60 headset. Sound was good, comfort was amazing, but I kept having one problem. Every so often a friend would freak out that all they could hear in their game was the echo from mine. I ignored it for a while, but I started getting complaints more and more often.

I tried everything from then on out. Screwed with every audio setting in every program that I could find, played with all the sensitivity in/out, input/output volumes, microphone boost, noise cancellation, absolutely everything. I then figured it MUST be a firmware issue. Reverted all my custom settings, deleted and re-installed all audio drivers etc, nothing.I then started to blame the corsairs. I went out and bought a brand new set of Astro A50 wireless thinking maybe it was the 3.5MM jack on the Corsairs and going usb (base) directly to motherboard would fix it, same f*@#$%g problem, still! The only other thing I could think to do was wipe Windows 10 and re-install. Literally the day I was getting ready to do just that, I was in a discord chat with friends, playing with the audio settings again hoping one last time would save me hours of misery, and no dice on the sensitivity or output settings, but then something magical happened....

For some reason, I decided to click the "Input Device" drop down menu which was set as "Astro A50 Gaming headset." (This changed automatically when I swapped out the Corsairs for the Astro, obviously, it used to read "Corsair HS60"). Scrolling through the settings, I noticed a "default" settings. Decided what the hell, give it a click. Poof, all of my in game audio transmission to other players stopped instantly. I feel sooo incredibly stuipid that it took me this long to figure that out. Hopefully if theres anyone out there having a similar problem, this will help them, because it had me wanting to tear the hair out of my head forever.

TL;DR : If your transmitting in game sound through your headset to other players, change your "Input Device" and "Output Device" settings in Discord from "(Your Headset Name)" to "Default."

I also have the Corsair HS60 and have this same problem. Seems to be a headset issue. I am going to try your fix and see how it works, thanks.
These issues are normally related to the headset. Some headsets do it, some do not. It depends on how they are wired up internally. Solution, buy a new headset. Do your research into them before hand.

Did it work out for you?

It's 100% not related to the headsets. My Corsairs where wired and plug directly into the 3.5mm microphone and headset jacks and the Astro's are wireless, powered through USB, so that pretty much eliminated that theory for me. The Astro's were over $300 (although I wouldn't recommend them) it's not like they were just some cheapos...

He never mentioned price. He clearly said about internal wiring, and that's correct.

Some are wired one way, some another so this feedback happens. It has nothing to do with price nor build.

I know what he said, my point was that it had nothing to do with my issue. His solution was "do your research and buy a new headset" when I had already stated in the OP that changing one setting in discord had resolved the issue for both of the headsets. The "$300 Astros" response was to reiterate that I already had already done exactly what he suggested, and it was clearly not the solution to my ongoing problem. I'm not saying he's wrong, but the point of the post was to inform others of how I fixed my recurring problem should they ever experience the same thing, not to troubleshoot 100 other things it could potentially be after I've already solved it.
Well here is another solution, buy a pair of studio headphones without a built in mic and get a mod mic.

Buying Astros or TurtleBeach or the majority of "Gaming" headsets for that matter are not worth it.

They look cool and are "Gaming" but you would be better off buying a decent pair of studio headphones with a mod mic for the same cost as a "Gaming" headset but will give you much much clearer audio quality from both your input and output audio while not having to deal with any cross contamination audio issues where you might if you bought a headset with a built in microphone.

Well, to be fair I was only responding to what YOU said - these headphones were $300 they were no cheapos.

Now what does that say if it isn't price relevant?

Anyhow, the Hopeless Gamer makes a good point (because it's what I've done) - I'm a bit of an audiophile and have amassed some fairly high end gear over the years. I thought if I'm ever going to use headphones in game I want them to be capable, not like overpriced ♥♥♥♥ like TurtleBeach and certain others.

So I bought another set of Grados, and a mod mic. In the long run cheaper, and FAR better sound quality.

I know it's a side step but it might be worth considering for the future.

I get it, and you aren't wrong. I have a nice set of Sennheisers too, but it's not really relevant to the post. Thread was about a single setting affecting audio, there are plenty of audio/headset quality threads here if that's the conversation you're looking to have.

No, no, don't get me wrong here. I always try to answer as COMPLETELY as I can. So I often not only address the point asked head on, but think around the problem a little bit and offer alternative suggestions, that's all.

If you already know, that's cool, but I also try never to assume, which is why you might think it comes across a bit condescending, because there are plenty of people post on here haven't got the first clue about a lot of things and need help.
Yeah just changing it to default doesn’t work🤦🏼‍♂️ if it’s on default nobody can hear anything…only when it’s on game (which then plays game audio through mic) fixed it before by just messing with it until it stopped but now discord has done it again 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
