Xbox One controller causes FPS drops and entire system lag
Does anyone know a fix to prevent huge FPS drops when using a Xbox One S controller on PC? It's not computer specific and it's constantly a problem dating back a few years.

What os?
If it wasnt computer specific, are there other cases?
When did it start to happen?

It's easy to replicate.

Step 1. Use Windows 10
Step 2. Use a Xbox One S controller (One that has bluetooth)
Step 3. Connect either via bluetooth or the xbox one wireless dongle
Step 4. Play the game, notice the stutters and drastic FPS drops in any game (In my case Borderlands 2 and Deux Ex)
Step 5. Restart PC and launch game again without the controller hooked up and experience no lag/fps drops.
It was all the time like that?

I had a stupid bug with that controller and windows 10. Thats why i uninstalled it quick long ago.

I recommend to write in the game forums, to see if others have it for that game.
have the same problem
Even over a year after you posted this, I can confirm it's still an issue, a big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ issue. I always use mouse and keyboard for first-person games and only use the Xbox One controller for certain third-person games (like FFXV, Vampyr, etc.). This just started happening a couple weeks ago, so I immediately thought it was the new Adrenalin 2020 drivers, so I rolled back to the latest 2019 version. I'd never tried FFXV, so I downloaded it from Steam yesterday and gave it a shot. After 10 minutes playing—boom, knocked down to 4 frames per second from 50-60. Rebooted my PC and tried again only for the same thing to happen. After I rebooted a second time and loaded the game, I forgot to turn on the controller, so I just used the mouse and keyboard for a bit. After I was convinced the problem was no longer occurring, I picked up the controller and turned it on. I hadn't even been playing for 5 minutes when it happened again—4 frames per second down from 50-60. I immediately realized the controller was causing the issue the whole time. Flipping it over and pulling out the batteries fixed everything instantly. Game went back to 50-60 FPS with zero issues. It's the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ controller, people. My mind is blown right now.
Just built a new pc and was playing modern warfare. I was getting high fps until I activated my gears5 limited edition controller and then my game chugged. How is this even a thing now? Was this not an issue years ago?

You can fix this by switching to Steam Big Picture mode, going into the controller settings and activating the Steam Controller Support for whatever kind of pad you are using.
Then save, go back to normal Steam and play the games you want.
Completely fixed those stutters for me.

How many fps you got?
Does the stutter happen with 60hz too?

if your joystick has audio jack it is old, I have the same.
I updated the firmware with this official application and the problem was solved.
Hope this can help you.
happens to me with several games. wwe 2k19 , gta5 and big time with farm simulator 19. just huge lags and when i connect the cord direct i get no problems. even fresh batteries. restarts. doesnt matter. sucks.
For anyone looking for a solution who is still experiencing this issue: I had this problem recently when playing several PC games with my xbox controller using bluetooth. The solution is to update your controller firmware. This can be done by downloading the xbox accessories app in the microsoft app store, connecting your controller to the pc wired, and using the app to update the firmware. Cheers!

i think its because battery is almost empty, then game starts to go under 10fps.

Can be a host of things, and it's basically down to your controller continually trying to connect to the computer and flooding things.

This can be either a crap battery charge, or a poor bluetooth signal, not updated firmware, or even if you're using a USB cable, a crap cable or connector.

I get surprised when the battery goes off. No hints like that.
10fps i would notice because it always happens when it definitely should not.
