Why are old games that I played before perfectly are now slow and pretty laggy?
I decide to replay some old games like TF2, Don't Starve and the Binding of Isaac which I haven't played in a few months ( or a long time ). But when I try to go play each of them they're all for some reason pretty laggy to the point where playing it is not enjoyable.

The thing is, I've played these games a LONG time ago and they ran perfectly fine! And the games that I have been playing these days ( Hollow Knight, Stardew Valley ) runs great! So whats going on?

Three Reasons that are all combimed.

Your computer or laptop is starting to get old, and can't keep up with the new updates / graphics that have been put into the new games. With that, it could overload your Graphics card and maybe damage it. I had this problem with Rocket League. I would play perfectly fine on full graphics, and then after time as the game got updated, my laptop couldn't handle the new graphics, and now I play on a Potato.

That makes sense. But you do know I mean "old games that I used to play before are now suffering from lag" and not the recent games i'm playing now?

( although Hollow Knight sometimes has a lag spike when there's a bunch of particles at once, but that's quite rare )
Conflicting software that has updated and now causing issues, is one possibility.

Game performance is by far not always only about hardware.

The new games might have corrupted your CPU just a bit, and makes old game work not at their best. After having the issue with Rocket League, I tried playing some old games, and that didnt help. I tried to play Battlefront II (Original) and it started lagging. The only solution is to ease down your CPU usage while playing games:

Close down other application that may be using CPU. (Antivirus, recording software, etc.)

Upgrade your Graphics card to a new modern one.

Probably the least you can do, is turn down the graphics and play on Low. Turning off shadows in settings helps alot.

I know. I never said this is the reason. This could be a reason, that happened to me :steamfacepalm::dd_denied:

No, no it didn't happen to you. A game can't "corrupt you CPU just a bit".

It can fry the graphics card if you overload it too much :/. Give me a different reason then
