How to install older CD version of Half-Life and Half-life 2

Hi there, I have been away from Steam for almost a decade. I had purchased the special edition pack of HL and HL2 and had joined steam then to update the game and of course play. I have tried to reinstall the CD version with no success... the game says the platform is not supported. I seem to recall this was the same in Vista back when I used it and had to install the game via steam, and not the CDs.

The problem is, over the last decade, Steam seems to have lost my account information and I was forced to create a new user.

How can I get access back to those two games that I paid good money for and intend to use as long as I own them?

You can reclaim the old account with the CD.
You will have to buy a new license for the new account.

I bought the Orange Box way back then, too, so did you activate the games on the other account, actually ? I don't see that detail in you OP, so that's why I am asking.

You seem to have said you only tried installing from the CD. But there should be keys that you can activate. I assume that you mentiond another account that you did activate them already, but just asking.

If so, please ignore this, and do as the good Bear said above.

So excuse me, but you should be able to recover that old account and they will still be activated on it and play them that way.
