Valve I want my money back - Windows XP/Vista support
Hello all, I have received word that Valve will be stopping its support for Windows XP/ Vista systems and as a result am in need of help.

I, unlike many others, do not play on a windows 7 laptop but a windows vista one, as I believe that the software on that laptop is vastly superior to any other (and because my laptops hardware does not support such OS's). I was peacefully enjoying my time on this OS until Steam said that it will no longer be supporting it, and instead "recommended" that people like me should upgrade their systems; something I don't feel obliged to do. As a result of this, I think it would be fair if all of my steam games and purchases should be refunded as the service, which claimed to support my laptop at the time of making those purchases, now no longer does.

I think this is very unfair as Steam promised (when I made such purchases) that my system will be supported.

How can I contact Valve (via email) and ask them to refund the game? I've already tried going onto the Steam help page and have found nothing of help, so I've come here, I need of help.

How can I get in contact with Valve?

Then tell me. Why should it be supported? Give me a valid reason.

Why should it? It's like buying a car, using it for 20 years and then having your perfectly good car taken away from you for no reason.

There's no valid reason for them stopping support.
That's not a good comparison. You see, you avoided giving me valid information why you want it supported. That just shows how little valid information you have to agree with your statement. You see, I have tons of valid reasons. And I have even more right now.

FIrst off we have the Steam surveys. I see Windows Vista isn't even shown on it. Probably because it's in the 0.01 percentile. So they figured it was pointless to even have it on there. Windows XP is in the 0.12 percentage. And it dropped by -0.01 percent this year. Aw, what a shame. Windows 10 and Windows 7 are currently leading the charts with the operating systems most used, not a shocker there.

Next reason, the operating system has been supported for 12 years. And for support for who or what reason? That costs money to continue support for an operating system that nobody ever uses, or shall I say... "hardly" because I forgot about you. The 0.01 percent probably is you. The only person using Vista on Steam.

Support ends, and support lives. I'm afraid it's time to wake up and realize, you're living in the past. It's fine if you have an old laptop, I have many old computers. But for your main system? a 2006 potato, with a toaster for an operating system. For your main system you should not have that. That's udderly disgusting. You should have an actual computer that will get er done. Not lack behind every little aspect.

Enjoy your support, because me and the other 96.44 percent of people will enjoy Steam, and be glad that we have high end computers with support for years too come. Excluding naive people like you, who just don't know how to build computers. I'm assuming that's why you kept with that old laptop? Come on. Don't lie. Lying isn't good, friend. ;)

The refund policy is clear, and does not contain any provision for what you are talking about here. If you have less than 2 hours playtime/2 weeks ownership of a game, you can request a refund.

You agreed to the SSA when you made your Steam account and with each purchase along the way (including this game you speak of), which also includes the refund policy, clearly linked from within that same SSA.

1. REGISTRATION AS A SUBSCRIBER; APPLICATION OF TERMS TO YOU; YOUR ACCOUNT ⏶

B. Subscriptions; Content and Services

Each Subscription allows you to access particular Content and Services. Some Subscriptions may impose additional terms specific to that Subscription ("Subscription Terms") (for example, an end user license agreement specific to a particular game, or terms of use specific to a particular product or feature of Steam). Also, additional terms (for example, payment and billing procedures) may be posted on http://www.steampowered.com or within the Steam service ("Rules of Use"). Rules of Use include the Steam Online Conduct Rules http://steampowered.com/index.php?area=online_conduct and the Steam Refund Policy http://store.steampowered.com/steam_refunds. The Subscription Terms, the Rules of Use, the Valve video policy (see Section 2.D below) and the Valve Privacy Policy (which can be found at http://www.valvesoftware.com/privacy.htm) are binding on you once you indicate your acceptance of them or of this Agreement, or otherwise become bound by them as described in Section 8 (Amendments to this Agreement).

You agreed to the exact conditions of refunds on Steam, where they may apply and when you actually qualify for said refund(s).

There is already a big thread on this topic in the Suggestions forum.

It's all very well explained there in that thread.

No, you bought your games for your steam account, not for your laptop.

It seems that over 99% of other Steam users disagree with you.

Click the OS dropdown there and feel free to see for yourself.

As far as reasons for this that you say do not exist, many have been posted in the thread I linked above found in the Suggestions forum. There are many reasons for XP/Vista to no longer be supported.

Also, they are being nice and giving users like you time to upgrade, as in giving a deadline. They could stop support for Vista/XP tomorrow, and it would be totally within their right to do so as per our agreement with them, the SSA.
Its not valves fault your poor.

There's no valid reason for it not to be supported.
Microsoft is dropping support for XP spring 2019, which means Google Chrome is also dropping support for XP and vista spring 2019 as well. The steam client uses an integrated version of google chrome wrapped inside of the main steam client. Therefore if Chrome drops XP support, valve has to as well or they won't be able to update their steam client in the future. Also your argument about using an old iphone 3: Apple doesn't release security updates for that device anymore. Which means while you may be able to get online with it, you can't do things like online banking with it, or even buy anything from the apple store with it either. It's no longer secure for online transactions.

@Vista

Sorry but I don't think that would be a valid claim, as they say all good things must come to an end at some point and the time has finally come for Windows Vista and support for Steam. Valve CANNOT refund you because it's technically your fault for not moving with the times, you either need to face the fact you need to install a newer OS or invest in a new PC. Simple as that really.

So, basically you also could sue Microsoft for dropping support for their old OS'es?
Also, you buy the license to have persmission to use the game on your steam account, not on your computer. You have to be logged in to your steam account to be able to play. Also, the game is never yours. You have purchased a licence, and you must abide by the EULA or risk the licence getting revoked.

You really run with that BS?

Microsoft's "dropping support" for XP means you get no more updates, but can use it on your box, so can you use all your programs.

Steam's version of the same means a different thing, more akin to SHUTDOWN. As you are losing access to your games on the box. So you have to invest extra money to use what runs fine on more current box and just suck it up for what you lose.
There's getting your money's worth and then there's throwing a hissy fit over a company no longer supporting a 12 year old operating system... You don't even need to buy brand new hardware, you could buy an old Win7 prebuilt to play any of the games that worked on Vista

You can use the free Win 10 version if you don't mind some limitations.
