Valve I want my money back - Windows XP/Vista support
Hello all, I have received word that Valve will be stopping its support for Windows XP/ Vista systems and as a result am in need of help.

I, unlike many others, do not play on a windows 7 laptop but a windows vista one, as I believe that the software on that laptop is vastly superior to any other (and because my laptops hardware does not support such OS's). I was peacefully enjoying my time on this OS until Steam said that it will no longer be supporting it, and instead "recommended" that people like me should upgrade their systems; something I don't feel obliged to do. As a result of this, I think it would be fair if all of my steam games and purchases should be refunded as the service, which claimed to support my laptop at the time of making those purchases, now no longer does.

I think this is very unfair as Steam promised (when I made such purchases) that my system will be supported.

How can I contact Valve (via email) and ask them to refund the game? I've already tried going onto the Steam help page and have found nothing of help, so I've come here, I need of help.

How can I get in contact with Valve?

Why should I "upgrade" I bought the games for my laptop, which it can run. I'm not obligated to update my OS just for some software. I've had this laptop ever since Windows Vista was released back in 2006, and no one besides a time traveller would've been able to predict that in 10 years that the software would no longer be supported; sure you could make the argument that "it's obvious that software changes" but it doesn't mean that people like me (which is a minority) should be forced to switch. I'm also not going to be taking advice from a spoiled 17-year-old.
Spoiled? No. Educated? Yes. First off, I'm surpised this 2006 laptop can even run any games, due to the technology in laptops not being very vast, nor good. Secondly, use common sense. This operating system was made in 2006... Which was 12 years ago. Literally over a decade ago.. Things become obsolete, and non supportive anymore due to the general public not using it. So why support something that nobody ever uses? You're probably the 0.4 percent of people who actually game on Vista with Steam. Vista is trash, and it will always be trash. The only good operating system was Windows XP, Windows 7, and Windows 10. So get used to it. Same thing with smartphones. Do you see the iPhone 3G running IOS 11? No. Do you see the Galaxy S2 running Oreo? No. Do you see Windows 7 with support of the newest Google Chrome? No. You don't. That's called unsupporting. I'm suprised they even kept support for those 2 operating systems for that long, 12 years... Would you imagine that? I hardly did. Besides, it's easy as hell to install Windows 7 on a laptop. If you can't do something that easy, then you should not be using any form of technology. Hope you've been educated by a 17 year old you ignorant little adult.

Those products can still be used however, you can still use an iPhone 3 with whatever software was available, no? You can still use Safari and call people on an iPhone 3. There's a difference between a service being unsupported (meaning it can still be used) and being permanently stopped (like what valve is doing). I wouldn't be writing this if I would be capable of still playing my games on Windows Vista, I would be happy running an older version of Steam to play these games. Go back to school you spoiled, "educated" 17-year-old. Maybe educate me in 30 years.

But you have to use certain apps with a specific IOS, some apps support this and some support that. So Safari would just be using an older version. But Steam on the other hand, you could use an older version. That may or may not work. It's just you won't be ever able to go online again. Is that a risk you're willing to take? Never be online ever again? Just to play some stupid game that can be downloaded via disk or a crack online? It's a pathetic one. Besides, if you are an adult, why the hell don't you have the money for a modern day machine? Why are you still using a laptop from 2006?

I just find it rather funny that you're pretending you know about technology, but I can clearly outsmart you in everything. How about you go back to school. Because it's clear you know nothing about modern day computing.

"Uneducated" how? I've made a valid point. As for spoiled I would disagree, I've been working almost 5 days a week ever since I was 21. Unlike 17-year-old William here who has a PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii, GameCube, two PCs and a laptop.

I don't know how to contact Valve. In the USA, I think the Federal Trade Commission could be the best place to lodge a consumer complaint about any large company.

Note that upgrading your o/s may stop some of your games from working. I read on the microsoft site that the 64-bit version of Win 10 home doesn't have legacy 32-bit support.

1. "But you have to use certain apps with a specific IOS, some apps support this and some support that. So Safari would just be using an older version." - Just read over that a few times, it doesn't make sense - I would be fine with using an old safari as long as I can still access the internet

2. "Just to play some stupid game that can be downloaded via disk or a crack online?" - I don't want to partake in illegal activities, I'm not sure why you're on the internet condoning illegal activity either.

3. "How about you go back to school. Because it's clear you know nothing about modern day computing." - I have a degree in Computer Architecture and a Masters in Networking and Systems Administration.

Do you think I would still be able to contact the Federal Trade Commission if I'm in another country?

You clearly are guessing on my life. I have a job just as other teenagers do, and I work 5 days a week, and get around 30 ish hours every week. So your point? Get used to it. Stop living in the past, and welcome to the present. Nothing will be supported for ever. You do realize that right? 12 years is long enough. You ignorant little fool.

Most games are 32bit; so you info is complete non-sense.
32bit games work on Win10 just like they do on Win7/8

There's no valid reason for it not to be supported.

Then tell me. Why should it be supported? Give me a valid reason.

Why should it? It's like buying a car, using it for 20 years and then having your perfectly good car taken away from you for no reason.

There's no valid reason for them stopping support.

Makes sense to me because I wrote Windows apps for 10 years. Here is some info -

No, it is not like buying a car and then having it taken from you. At all.

You still have the car and the games. You just can't drive the car without meeting current emission standards, and you can't play the games without being on a properly supported OS.

2. LICENSES ⏶

A. General Content and Services License

For reasons that include, without limitation, system security, stability, and multiplayer interoperability, Steam may need to automatically update, pre-load, create new versions of or otherwise enhance the Content and Services and accordingly, the system requirements to use the Content and Services may change over time. You consent to such automatic updating. You understand that this Agreement (including applicable Subscription Terms) does not entitle you to future updates, new versions or other enhancements of the Content and Services associated with a particular Subscription, although Valve may choose to provide such updates, etc. in its sole discretion.

So the "system requirements to use the Content and Services" are going to change, as some operating systems will no longer be supported. This is what you agreed to when you made your Steam account, and each time you made a purchase along the way all throughout your use of Steam.
