idle: 65c
underload: 80-87c

Find out what's causing the over-heating.

Accumulated dust is the known culprit.

Its a laptop, that is to be expected.

Max temp for that CPU is 100c, so 85c should be fine from my understanding.

It shouldn't be thermal throttling at 85c and if it was, you wouldn't be seeing it at 85-87c.

It shouldn't be thermal throtteling at 85.
thats the maximum temperature the cpu can handle before shutting down

Again, it shouldn't be thermal throttling at 85-87c. If it was, the temp would have dropped as well.

Official Intel statement on the matter:

https://communities.intel.com/thread/111750

In regard to your question, if the temperatures are below 100°C then the processor is working fine, as long as the laptop is not throttling, freezing or going off by itself you do not need to worry about the temperature.

Also, there are no known issues of Kaby Lake processors having a temperature problem with Windows® 10.

However in this case since you are using a laptop you can always get in contact with the manufacturer of it to confirm the information above.

Also, we do have a tool to test the temperature of the processor, it was build to be used on desktop boards but you can always run it on your laptop to verify the report:

Any further questions, please let me know.

Alberto

Original question:

Hi,

My CPU temps reach up to 90 C and hovers between 85-90 C under heavy load on a gaming laptop. I know TJ Max is 100 C but I feel worried for the long-term use of the processor. I don't think my cpu temps are in the safe zone. Is there any known compatibility issues of Kaby Lake with Windows 10? Should I be worried with my temps?

Thanks and best regards,

Harun

If you know how yes laptop processors drop from boost clock fairly easily i did the one in my wifes laptop in about 25min dropped from 84c to around 72c under load which helps it keep higher clock speeds

By any chance did you overclock your CPU? If so try lowering the core voltage so the temps are lower but still making it stable.

Those temps are within spec, so d be surprised if the clock speed was actually dropping to be honest.

its a laptop so i cant entirely do that

fixed:
i disabled core parking and manually turned my fans to 100%, im now getting an average of around 120-180 fps

nevermind, as soon as my cpu hits 80c my core clock falls to 1.5ghz

thats thermal throttling
blow it out with an aricompressor or cans of compressed air
and get a laptop cooling pad

do i just blow the compressed air directly into the airvent leading to the fan?
blow it from the exaust

yes, forward and backward
until no more dust exits any vent
