Steam download rate
So I'm getting around 15kb/s for an update and I have 60MB download and 15MB upload. why is steam donwloading so slow? it doesnt og higher than 100kb/s and it was working just fine yesterday, giving me 10MB download on steam. I've tried everything to fix it and nothing is working. how do I speed up the download?

Steam doesn't cap your download rate - bear that in mind.

Perhaps try changing the content servers if you have not done so yet.

Try servers that are further away from you as well.

I've already tried changing the servers and it makes it worse. When i do a speed test, im getting around 40MBs download and 10MB upload. but steam is still keeping my download speed low. I can download files off the internet with normal speeds but steam isnt downloading at my normal speed.

You may want to clear your download cache and see if anything is interfering with Steam.

Anti-virus software, fire-wall settings or even malware may be potential vicissitudes.

I've already cleared my cache and i dont use antivirus and my firewall is decactivated. I also dont surf the web. This is my gaming computer and is only used for gaming. I just uninstalled it and downloaded the game on its actual launcher. better than waiting forever because steam wont download any game faster than 15kb/s

Did you try running the Steam Application as an administrator?

You may also wish to check your settings and confirm that there is no limit to your download rate.

Steam > Settings > Download > Limit Bandwidth to > No Limit.

I can suggest that you change your DNS server settings.

Here's a guide...

See if that also helps with Discord.

This didnt fix anything. steam is still slow and discord still wont let me connect. This is really annoying because everything was working perfectly the other day and now its not.

I don't know if it was mentioned yet, but you may need to try changing download regions to many different locations. Try some very, very far away from you also. This is normal sometimes, as the servers in the region you are normally using may be having issues or overloaded at the time you try to download.

I tried those and plugging my computer increases the donwload speed by like 50kb/s it will download at 150-200 now but thats still extremely slow for what I usually get. also Discord is still not connecting. its like the website is down or something, im so confused why this stuff isnt working like it did the other day.

I've already done that and it made it worse

If you are using a wireless connection, bypass it temporarily with ethernet directly to the modem ( source unit) and see if that helps. Even if you have made no changes, bypass the wireless connection for now, if you are using one.

Change regions for downloads. You have to try many, and not just one or two. Try some very far away from you also.

Check for device driver updates for your computer. Make sure all drivers are up to date, but especially the NIC(LAN) and any wireless drivers.

If you are using an ethernet add-in card, that is a question mark also. There are many possibilities here with slow download rates.

Use process of elimination to troubleshoot the problem.

How many different region did you try and did you try some very, very far away from you, like on the other side of the Earth, if possible ?

I did them all, it took me about 30 minutes to try them all and Denver is the best one for me.
