Friends List Update not working.

Ever since the sleek new design of the friends list has come out, i have been unable to connect to it at all. This stops me from connecting and inviting friends to my games and whatnot. I used to be able to wiggle around it by shift tabbing and viewing friends that way but now everything traces back to the friends list bar, which I have never been able to connect to. Please help, thank you.

Basically install steam again over the existing installation.

Just tried everything you said and in the troubleshooting and still none of it worked x.x

You say you can't connect to friends but you can if you use the ingame overlay? So, can your friends see you online? can they talk to you?

Can you open the friends menu and see that you are disconnected?

until earlier today i was able to talk to friends in the ingame overlay. Now i cannot as when i press friends in the in the game overlay it now only brings up the new friend/chat ui and it just sits there saying im disconnected. It tries to reconnect but even when i leave it running for days it never connects. If I go to my friendslist and click on a friend and click ' Send a Message' nothing will happen. no chat window or friends ui thing pops up. probably because i am disconnected from chat. However i am still able to connect to games.and chat in game and whatnot.

Try going to settings>web browser>delete browser cache.

You confused me because you meant in game friendslist but in not the overlay sense right? like the list of people playing the game in dota 2 or csgo. and not the thing you can see both in the overlay and when not playing a game? Two friend different places where the friend list shows up but only one "updated".

If you played a singleplayer game it would be a different story right?

Lets ignore the friend lists that shows up in the menus for games for now, focus on the new one.

The Beta is the problem. and I've cleared my web browser 3 times on steam and a couple times on my web browser. still nothing it is still just trying to update endlessy for days since the beta came out. I'm sorry for the confusion and sorry for the trouble but how do I revert back to old chat? Because this new one has given me nothing but problems and I can't talk to or invite my friends.

So you are using the beta? What if you stop using it, does it work again?

You can also make a copy of the shortcut old shortcut so you can go back and see if got fixed working.

I bet this shortcut to old chat will stop working at some point, probably when valve thinks all the bugs are fixed. This is why you should report this bug so they are aware and can fix it.
