Steam - Error 7
Hello,

i've recently reinstalled Windows 10 to the newest version, but now i have problems using Steam software.

When i turn it on i get friends network unreachable error. In steam browser i have following error:
Error Code: -7
Unable to connect to server. Server may be offline or you may not be connected to the internet.

Does anybody have any idea how to solve this? Does this have something to do with new Windows 10 version or maybe some drivers?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards

Change your DNS settings.

Use googleDNS or OpenDNS.

Thanks for the link. Changing DNS settings didn't help. I tried both GoogleDNS and OpenDNS.

It's quite strange because i changed dns, restarted wireless connection, opened Steam and everything worked, but then i closed steam, opened it again and it doesn't work.

I forgot to mention the simple procedure which was clearing your web browser cache.

Steam > Settings > Web Browser > Delete Web Browser Cache.

Try that.

Have you tried restarting Steam after that?

Also...

  • Press the Windows Key + R to open the "Run" prompt
  • Type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter

Yup, it didn't solve the problem.

What about trying to access Steam using your desktop web browser?

Use something like Chrome on the SAME PC and see what happens.

Is it the same error when you visit these pages?

Well, i can access steam using desktop browser. I am now writing from mozilla for example, at the same computer where steam is installed.

Can you try booting your PC in safe-mode with networking and try checking the pages load?

Fire-walls, AV software, malware, crap-ware, may all cause issues with Steam.

I am having the exact same issue in the same scenario. Can't install/download any Steam games as it will say I'm not connected to the internet, and all of that after a new Windows 10 installation.

Might be good to note that the errors are: "An error occured while installing <game> (no internet connection)" or (content server unreachable). :(

Identify the system that you say you recently reinstalled Windows 10 on, please.

- The exact model and model number of computer, or if custom built, the exact motherboard instead.

- If your Windows 10 is 32 or 64 bit

- How are you connectect exactly to the internet ? (router, router/modem combo, extenders, wireless adapter or ethernet card, home/school network, etc.) Give details, please.

MSI Gaming M3 motherboard, Killer Network LAN, Windows 10 Home 64 bit. The only thing that lets me download games is using a VPN, switching region/location doesn't help.

This issue occured after installing Windows 10 1803 for the second time to start with a fresh setup.

Other PCs on the same network are working fine.
