Steam crashing computer
Sometimes when i'm playing games, my computer will crash/freeze/hang, etc (sometimes bluescreen) I have to hold the power button to turn it off and then turn it back on again. I say steam is the cause of the problem as i have noticed everytime i reboot after a crash i see this: https://i.stack.imgur.com/JzIqa.png

how can i stop it crashing my pc?

Bluescreen? First, whats the text on it? Secomd, upload your dumps found in %windir%, dumps or monidumps. Look for files with the extension DUMP, DMP.

there are no dump files. It usually just freezes and I have to hard reset. Only bluescreens sometimes

Steam does not cause this. It is only presenting itself when you use Steam, apparently making you think that is the casue.

BSOD errors are hardware or driver related, almost always. You have a more serious issue to fix first, surely.

Need the text that the good Reboot was talking about, or maybe you can get clues from Windows Event Veiwer. Look for red warning flags, and read the message associated with them.

Why this not happen from my 2nd account then?

I have the same situation, each time I log in. Blue screen reason is "machine check exception", but it only appeared once.

This isssue is not really related to your's in your own thread. This user just has one account. And you said you have two.

Also, you said "computer crashes" in your thread, where this user has BSOD errors, which are quite serious and not related to Steam causing them.

Just because an issue presents itself when something else is going on, that does not mean that other thing that is going on is the cause of the issue. That is not proper troubleshooting, to assume that it is.

Please, do not multipost. I cannot see what you are posting when I am typing a reply to a prevous post. This is a great way to cause confusion. Now I have to go back and correct my first post.

Also I mentioned it does not usually BSOD, it just hangs/freezes.

Any BSOD at all, one single one, and that points to a much more serious issue than Steam. It's a problem with your hardware or drivers.

Did you install or upgrade to Windows 10 on that computer by chance ?

The good Reboot is talking about Windows dumps or the text that is seen on the Blue Screen when that happens. There are error codes and text there that gives an idea where the problem is.

Assuming it is not hardware failure, post the exact computer you have. Model and model number.

Post what Windows this is also. Also post if it is 32 or 64 bit. Forget about any Steam issues you have right now. Taking care of the BSOD issues are first and foremost.

EDIT.....................

Application to start. But I would look over all of them honestly. Sorry I missed this post.

ok well the computer is a custom built. running windows 7 professional 64. asus z170-ar motherboard, i7 6700k, 32g ram and gtx 960.

It recently crashed again while playing csgo, pc hung and played a loud buzzing sound through the speakers.

i cant tell you what text it says on the blue screen as it hasnt happened in a while. i checked the dump folder but it says its empty
ReBoot Feb 7, 2018 @ 3:48am
If there has ever been a BSOD, there should be a dump, no matter if the last crash was a BSOD or not. Where have you checked?

There is also a new BIOS update for that board.

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z170-AR/HelpDesk_Download/

Read the notes there on that and make sure all device drivers are up to date, if you just can't get the dumps and assuming this is not hardware failure.

Version 3703 2018/01/128.09 MBytes

Z170-AR BIOS 3703
Fixed SAMSUNG M.2 device issue.
Fixed SanDisk M.2 device issue.
Fixed AMD RADEON SSD device issue.
Improved DRAM compatibility.
Fixed SteelSeries keyboard issue.

i updated my drivers a few weeks ago but still having the same problem on the old and new drivers.
I built this pc in 2015 and never used to have this problem but last year i think is when it started happening. so it could be a software problem?. It never crashes any other time, only when playing csgo
