Does moving a game delete the save file?
I just got a new hard drive, I want to move all my games over to it using the properties menu but I'm not sure if doing so will delete my save files. Might be a dumb question but I'm paranoid. I'm talking about games that don't have steam cloud enabled of course.

Some saves are stored in other places than the game's own folders in steamapps\common.

Places like "My Documents" or "My Games". Simply save your steamapps folder and copy/move it to the new hard drive once you get Steam installed.

That saves all the game progress for games where save files are stored in the game folders.

Next, you have to search for where a game stores its saves, if in other locations.

Simply moving things does not delete the saves.

Note about Save Games

If you are moving your Steam installation to a new hard drive and want to keep game saves/profiles for third party games that are not saved on Steam Cloud most of these can be found in your Documents folder: ~\Documents\[username]\My Games\. Moving this folder to the same location on your new hard drive will maintain your saves/profiles.

If you transfer all the files you would most likely be save.

That's true, that some games store saves in really strange locations or unusual places. One just needs to search for the save file before removing the hard drive, if possible to get the data, depending on what the hard drive issue is of course. Thanks.

If your game has Steam Cloud support and it is enabled, your saves will be transferred to your new system automatically.
