How to contact Steam for a refund
Hello,

I recently purchased Rust (less than 14 days ago), but haven't enjoyed it at all, I've had about an hours play time but my refund requests keep getting denied because they say my playtime is too high. I have 168 hours listed which works out to be about 15 hours a day since I bought it. Clearly I haven't been playing this much, I had accidentally left my computer on the menu screen for a few days while I was away from home.

Is there a phone number I can call or any way of contacting an actual person who can understand my case?

Kind regards,

Matthew

Steam only issues refunds under 2 hours of total play time. If you've already contacted them and they denied the case, then there is not much you can do.

An actual person reviewed your request and denied it. As for phone, a refund request can take several hours to process. I dont think youre really crazy enoigh to enjoy sitting on the phone for several hours.

sorry, what? if you have 168 hours then ur not getting a refund no matter what.

You'd be surprised how many people here in the US will wait on the phone (or in line) for hours just to yell at some poor rep demanding a refund for their $5 item. It's pretty disgusting.

The refund policy is within 14 days of purchase and 2 hours total playtime. The issue here is that Steam can't discern whether you were playing or not, it goes by the total playtime on record.

$5 for me is a lot of money. paypal changed their policy and I can't accept payments from the main services I used anymore, so i rely on amazon and ppl always only pay 80% paypal to amazon, so, when I take $5 to steam now, das a lot of work I went through to get that $5.

Maybe you should switch away from PayPal then. Its not the only payment provider Steam supports.

$5 for you isn't anywhere near the same as $5 for some nutjob over here that makes two-to-ten times that an hour. They are literally wasting many times as much WAITING than what they'll ever get back.

paypal and amazon payments are the only providers that I am capable of using. I don't have a bank or use credit cards, nor can I, due to.... reasons. (no I'm not a minor)... Anywho, point is, value of money differs from person to person.

I'm fairly sure if you can afford a computer and an internet connection, you should have no issues paying a one-time fee of $5.00 USD.

Beside, a limited steam account can still accept or deny incoming invites.

You can't have a refund. It should be a total 2 hours of game time (running the game time included too).

But as a huge fan of Rust myself, I feel sad that it's not an enjoyable game for you. I spent hours on Legacy mode before it stops being an Alpha game.

That's only a little bit over the 2 hour mark. ;)
There is no way that Steam Support can determine how much of the 168 hours you actually played.

Don't forget, the "I accidentally left it running" is an easy excuse.
I'm NOT saying you're making up excuses, it's however something that Steam Support has to take in consideration.

So don't be surprised that your request will stay denied.

When buying a game you can only play it for -2 hours.
If you go above the 2 hours you are not able to send a refund request.

You can raise a ticket about it from the support site and go into more detail about it, but as people say it is unlikely based on the timescale given.

BTW: Nice hometown :P

It's a definite no.

168 hours is excess.
