To play games I like. It's what Steam is, a platform to buy & play games.
Why should it be public? Unless someone wants to share that information, there is no reason it should be public.
Steam profiles are automatically assigned to users. So if you want to play a game through the Steam platform, you need a Steam account. When you first sign in to your Steam account, it walks you through creating your profile.
Just because someone wants to use Steam to play games doesn't mean that they're obligated to divulge their life story, personal details, social security number and mother's maiden name to everyone on the internet.
Users had private profiles before this update. Anyone who has a problem with that, should take it up with those individuals.
Your question is rhetorical. Instead of getting all snippy and having an attitude, if you have something to actually say or a point to make then you should just say it.
Or, you can make it private or friends only. If you have a Steam account, then you have a profile, even if it is private and no one can really "see" anything.
Now, we are less likely to be able to see that information and will have to ask them to make it visible, if they have their profile set where we cannot see such information.
I am sure others have already thought of this, but I can see some cases of helping others being interesting.
Which is not relevant at all.
