Steam always showing as "Online" even when I'm in a game.
When I started up Divinity Original Sin 2 tonight to play with some friends, I discovered that they could not receive my invites or join me (I hosted the game since I have the saves for it). This is because Steam is always showing my status as "Online" even when I start a game. I can change my status manually to "Away", "Busy", "Offline", etc. but no matter what, with whatever game I play, I won't be showing as "in-game".

For some games this isn't an issue, such as PUBG which uses it's own invite and party system. But for games like Divinity and Civ, I can't host or send invites. Does anyone have any solutions or has this happened to anyone at all?

You mean in the last hour or two?

They just changed some privacy settings, maybe that broke something.
Is your profile set to friends only? https://steamcommunity.com/my/edit/settings
Try to change something if you can, see what works to fix this. I'm sure Steam and/or the developers will make this work properly soon but until then you might need to try something.

It looks like this is caused by private profiles - private profiles (or profiles with Game Activity set to private) no longer show as In-Game to friends, but this wasn't intended to stop you from inviting friends to play with you. We are looking in to a fix.

If you add more things to be private, at least give some control of these things.

By now we have to choose between visible profile or nothing at all. Why should i show my friendslist and all games i have to other people just to show what game i play atm so people can join?

Why not adding a setting to hide status for whoever needed that? Instead of forcing people to give up private profile.....

Give up private profile?

They add more and more things that get hidden,
and the only way out of it is
setting your profile to visible first.

The new settings look like more choice, but actually it isnt.

It's more choice for people who had public profiles yesterday. For private profiles, they gain nothing.

I never had to make it public to change the options around. But I have a friends only profile.

Private profiles lose.
It started with screenshots. Then level and badge. Screenshots in activity. If you own the game as well. Even searching a profile never shows you if your profile is private. You are removed.

I have a few points why i choose a private profile. And all these things are forced on me now. My points are none of these.

Hoping to hear about a fix or something for this, not being able to invite friends to some games

Do they even test updates before release? I have a private profile because I dont like people snooping around checking out my games/inventory. I'm forced to not display my current game to my friends because of this new update.

I can't invite friends to game anymore! And I wanna be privite, but add option to see friends, that I'm playing the game only.

This is kind of lame, I don't see why there isn't an option to have it as it was before the update: show your status as in game -while- having the rest of your profile as private.

The community feedback is considered and that was explicitly stated in the News Update.

Thanks for the non-reply. If the feedback was considered why wasn't this addressed? Adding options while taking away others is pointless meandering. Tying the two displays does nothing but remove functionality to those who already chose to have a private profile.
