Is there any program, app, or piece of hardware that can overlay a better crosshair on my screen?
I do not see this as a cheat, and for my purposes, it is actually NESSICARY to play a shooting game.

My problem is that I am color blind and the in-game modes for this do not help at all. I CAN NOT see the reticle unless it has a high contrast with whatever is behind it, and that happens less than 5% if the time. I might as well be closing my eyes and firing! it might actually be more accurate!

What I would like to see, for visually challenged people like me, is an app, program, or piece of hardware that works with the game designers to customize a crosshair for use in whatever game is played. the only function it could provide is a static overlay so that it could not be adapted to provide a cheat over the game. Then players like myself might be able to hang with others and be a valuable contributor to the team in a game, or not struggle to get through a game simply because we cant get on target at all.

For example, ever since HALO1 I have been only able to use shotgun and explosives in games effectively... Any weapon requiring aiming, I just end up using a "spray and pray" method of firing. So if I could actually SEE THE DARN CROSSHAIR then I would be able to use those the way they were intended.

FYI I sucked at that bird hunting game as a kid, almost never got a hit.

After some research, the “average” human eye and brain has a 100-250 ms processing time to register a something new onscreen. Even the best has a response time of about 50 ms. So a good 4K TV with a 30 ms input lag, VS about 10 ms for a high end gaming monitor, is still less then what your eyes can process. A good 4K TV costs less than the 4K monitors, and less than most 1440 gaming monitors, and it often will have a better contrast ratio than a monitor will.

So if I’m getting a TV, I don’t want to mark it’s screen, and it won’t have built in crosshairs, so that why I’m looking for a device to add one.

you would need to ask in the game forum for the game you are planning on playing. If the dev does make it an option, everyone can use it.

put a small piece of bluetack on your screen where the crosshair should be.
hardware solution undetectable by vac lol.
Crosshairs should be modified in the CFG (config) files, which do not set off VAC (as it doesn't give unfair advantages), so you should be safe, especially if it's because you're colourblind.

There actually *IS* hardware to do this https://www.airdropgaming.com/ it is literally an led that is stuck to your monitor so you can see the crosshair area at all times. (Although a peice of clear tape with a dot on also works!)

A LOT of games allow you to modify your crosshairs, etc. Battfield, Payday 2 are two examples and you may find others allow you to do it via config files, even if they don't SAY it's a feature.

What you wish to see is going to vary per game.

You need to ask for assistance in the game's forum for assistance with config settings or anything that'd help.

If I may, some games have a Colour Blindness setting (Deut, Tri, etc) or try to change the colour of the HUD/UI or Crosshair to something you can see while playing.

If not, this low-tech solution is actually the best last resort (I've seen people use Sticky Notes in the past, in offices like this heh):

Not most support that feature.

Which is the reason why I said "some have..".

No matter, putting something on the monitor is the easiest solution.

Sticking something on the screen of a high dollar 4K HDR TV doesnt sound like a good idea to me... I am saving up for one so its not something I can afford to screw up.

There use to be a device that the HDMI cable from your computer plugged into, and that then went to your TV... and it had sliders or something that allowed you to adjust the X & Y of the reticle, and you could link into it with the computer to customize how it looked... but I cant find that now.

Depending on the monitor you get, there may actually be a crosshair mode.

BTW, a 4k TV is not that great for gaming. Response time is always lacking on TVs.
Though if all you play are say strategy or games that aren't fast paced, it's not as big a deal.

I like the larger FOV you can have for the same $ on a TV as a monitor... plus there are not any afordable 4K monitors that are any good yet.
Spawn of Totoro Jun 2, 2018 @ 3:00am
There are monitors that have a build in crosshair you can turn on and off these days.
Snapjak Jun 2, 2018 @ 3:03am
It's still going to be 16:9 so you're not actually getting more "FOV" over a 1080/1440p it's just increasing the number of pixels on the screen.

If you actually want more displayed, look at an ultra-wide, or get a 1440p monitor with the crosshair mode and a higher refresh rate.

Keep in mind that Ultrawide isn't always supported and some times when it is, you actualy get less displayed, not more. Some games run it in 16:9, then cut off a part of the top and/or bottom to make it appear ultrawide.

Yes that is very true SoT. It's even more niche than 4k right now.
