Verify integrity of steam's own files
Last month or so I've noticed a few smaller things pop up, mostly UI bugs or annoyances. If Steam was a game my first move would be to verify the files. But can I? I did a quick check and found nothing relating to steam checking itself.
Anyone know if you can and how to do it?

There's only a verification system in place for game files.

You can always re-install the Steam Client if you believe there's been a corrupt installation or something similar.

yeah - steam verifies it's own files every time it starts, what's the exact issue?

He reported UI bugs amongst other smaller issues.

Hmm re read the orignal post, yeah, I raise tickets often myself, eventually they get fixed, some bugs never seem to get attention, but that does not sop me. It's just a worry that you are now limited to only having one open ticket at any one time.
So I cannot log all of my bugs at once anymore :zombieva:

The Steam client is just a giant web browser. Any UI bugs are probably server side and not client side.

the font UI bug is definitely not server side

Thanks for the replies.
The bugs are things like drop-down or right-click menus not appearing in the right place (or at all) if steam is in windowed mode, links being unresponsive unless I right-click>forward. Things of that nature mostly. A restart almost always solves them so I'm not sure it actually is Steam that's the problem.
And they don't happen often either, once every three days maybe? But I don't recall ever having any bug like this with steam before so I thought I might as well ask.

restart is not a "solution" for creating a superior user experience that makes users keep comming back to your platform.
Users of line of business software who have no platform chocie on the other hand, so are happy to reboot to fix issues if it does not cost them in productivity. Curios how the elves working in Gabe's dungeons of steam , however, think we are paid to play games on a platform that is really old and creaky, because the rules arrrrrr different here.

Not sure if it was mentioned yet but try this :

Now, you need to wait after clicking on the delete then "ok" button, and allow the page to refresh.
It may seem to hang and not be working, but don't click on anything until you see the main page refresh and flash.
This may actually take several seconds and seem to not be working. It is. Don't click on anything.
When you see the main page refresh, click "ok" on the settings window and try again to see if it resolved the problem.

I had an issue with a game on steam. It crashed while starting and did something to my windows. Everything related to desktop or the taskbar goes unresponsive after a while. For example a web browser might still be working but I can't click anything on the taskbar and the computer won't restart. Trying to fix this was difficult. In fact steam does not do a selftest when starting since this did not solve the issue. Uninstalling steam with a few restarts apparently helped. Windows could fix itself either so I'm fairly sure this was an issue with steam and steam alone.

Frankly I'm not amused that steam or one of its games can basically cripple my computer so badly I might have to do a full reset on my computer. What ever steam does it does not handle issues like this. Steam lets programs damage really critical parts of the OS even when it's not malware, this was not a bug per se. The game might have malfunctioned but steam let it damage my system and did not repair it.
