My games take forever to launch
Upon starting my computer, opening Steam and launching any game, said game takes around 2-3 minutes to launch. It isn't necessarily anything that breaks the experience of launching a game on Steam, but it becomes annoying ever so slightly everytime it happens. The thing is that after the first game launches after 2-3 minutes, any other game launches within a couple of seconds, as it usually does. Any thoughts?

If you're on desktop you might consider upgrading to an SSD (if u got coin). That'll improve loading times by heaps, but it's kind of expensive.

I have an SSD and I have Steam installed on it. Granted, it's only 250GB so I have a very limited amount of games installed at once.

Are you sure you have real-time scan exceptions in any antivirus or security software for all games and Steam ?

Also, check for background processes that can be causing issues with games. For example, this support page :

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289

Programs like CCleaner, depending on its settings, might be programs that you can overlook as an issue, but that can still cause issues for Steam and/or games.

Is your OS installed on your SSD or HDD?

edit: A clean reinstall of your OS on your SSD would most likely solve your problem, but will take quite the time & wipe your your data. Have the same issue here but my SSD is only 128 gb q_q, I don't wanna backup & sort through all my stuff though.

I would also suggest, before the thread gets along too far, to post your full system specs, and actually give us some game titles where you see this happening, even if it really is ALL games.

Go to "help" in the top of Steam. Then system information. Right click, select all, then copy and paste all that here, please. Knowing some examples of games where you see the issue would still be a good idea.

Also, to mention some of the titles I currently have installed that this happens to:
The Witcher 1 and 3, Sekiro, DMC5, Crash Bandicoot, Borderlands GOTY

Is this your exact motherboard ?

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/X79A-GD65-8D.html#down-driver&Win10%2064

If it is not, find your board on MSI and link that here, please.

If you don't know, see this :

https://www.howtogeek.com/208420/how-to-check-your-motherboard-model-number-on-your-windows-pc/

Need to be sure you don't have the Killer Network Access Manager Suite installed on it, or you can just tell us if you do.

If you do, that is a known issue with Steam and/or games for some.

Also possible your anti virus is causing issues

Yea, not sure, but OP seems to have missed replying to this above, about security software :

You dont need a ssd to play games or load them normally.

You dont need a ssd for the os to run without much delay.

I bet the time he would waste by doing your suggestion
would not be won back by using a ssd for several years to come.

The antivirus/firewall should be excluded as possibility at first.

Steam does not need to be on a ssd, btw.

I'm having the same issue, did you ever find a fix?

I am randomly now also having this issue, every game that has now updated since May 2024 take 4-5 minutes to launch after it says "launching."
