Proton no longer working
I'm experiencing a strange issue that started months ago but I haven't been playing much until lately so I've ignored it until now. Through proton one can install and play their windows-only games in a Linux installation of Steam (as opposed to before where one had to have a separate WINE install and a Linux install). That's what I *was* doing until for some reason unbeknownst to me that just stopped. All my windows-only games that I was playing until that point were not recognized as playable via the Linux installation of Steam. For example, Gal*Gun: Double Peace is a game I've sunken 40 hours in to, ALL in Linux and plenty with Proton. I can now no longer select to play the game as I am told that it is "not available" on my OS instead of being able to just play it because it is installed and was playing just fine prior to this strange incident.

I've tried installing a newer version of Proton (from 3.7 to 4.2) and that seemed to help a little. SOME games (like 20XX and Castle Crashers) now work just like before, but others still don't. I tried uninstalling Disgaea (which also used to work just fine) to see if maybe I could reinstall and that would fix the issue but it didn't do anything; I presume that Proton is failing to tell Steam that this game can be installed and played despite the OS difference. Why it worked for some and not others is beyond me.

Also (and I have no idea if this is a problem or normal), I've noticed since installing Proton 4.2 that 3.7 still seems to be installed (it's still highlighted when I do a library search along with 4.2). I see no way to uninstall the old version of Proton but I also have no idea if it can or needs to be at all.

Have you tried asking the developers of the program you're having issues with for help using their program? Proton is not made by Valve and isn't something that most users will be familiar with. Usually when people are having issues with their third party software the thing to do is ask the developers of their third party software for support.
