games randomly uninstalling
files are completley gone, has to install every time. happens whenever i boot up my computer. is rather annoying with games that are heavily modded, such as rimworld.

Shut down windows and Steam properly and it wont happen any more.

Holding the power button isnt the right way. You need to be told that?

It's surely not that they are uninstalled, but "appearing" as uninstalled (title of page below) :

To ensure that you do not encounter this issue, always allow Steam to close properly when shutting down your computer. Allowing Windows to force Steam to close when it is writing to a hard drive may cause Steam library and installation information to become corrupted.
clean uninstall, has to download all the files and mods. anything such as non workshop mods are gone

Did you actually go to your steamapps/common folder and look inside the game folder there for this game ? We see this posted here all the time, and the usual issue is, forced shutdowns, just as you described above.

Regardless, that is not the right way to shut down a computer, normally.
bad habit with the power button, i know
i know it was uninstalled as i went to go check the folder to see if i could salvage anything from my mods

If the folder really was totally empty, the game's own folder that is, then that is a bit different than we normally see here, but still could be related to the forced shutdowns.

My suggestion would be to just not do that anymore and see if it happens again, but it should not.

You can always make a copy of the game's folder and the .acf file for that game, and keep them in case, just for now.

UNLESS there is another reason you are having to force your PC to shutdown, as that would be more important to solve first. But it sounds like you just were doing that without the need to.
i was. this has happened with other games and only started lately, so i was unsure what to do.

You don't have these games or Steam running from an external hard drive, by chance, do you ?

If no, then I kindly would just suggest the same as I said above, and keep a backup maybe just for now of the .acf file and folder for the game, in a separate location of course.
i have a secondary drive i installed, but not an external one

Ok, if it is an internal hard drive, just ignore that point. Externals are also covered as a possibility on the support page, so that's why I asked.

Feel free to stay subbed to the thread if you need more help and it happens again.
thanks for your help
