It seems Alaska and Hawaii aren't able to buy the Valve Index or the controllers
Not sure what to say other than it's unfortunate. I was hoping to grab the controllers to use with my Vive Pro. But sadly won't be able to buy them due to living in Alaska and there's no other market to get them from. Anyone got any ideas on how to get my hands on it without buying second-hand which is iffy when it comes to support stuff?

Costs are to high to do so.

Have a good friend or family member in the lower 48 get one and ship it to you or wait to see if it shows up on Amazon or Ebay.

That's the problem though. By having a friend or family member ship up here. You forgo any hardware support from Valve as they only work with the original purchase owner. So if your headset or controllers crap out. You're out of that money.

They never shipped hardware to Alaska.

That's not true. Back when they originally released the Steam Controller. They shipped up here. I pre-ordered mine back then. But soon after they stopped doing it.

Because the cost was too high.

Sounds like something the state authorities in Juneau could, if pressed, pursue.

It is mainly due to the fact that Valve does not have any manufacturing plants other than the lower 48 in the US and EU.

Look this isn't helpful in any way. The fact that Valve developed SteamVR and Alaskan's are locked out of the hardware that uses it sucks. The controllers are a huge upgrade over the Vive's and we can't get it. I've been an avid VR enthusiast for several years and this is the first time I've hit a purchase gate and it's because of the location I live.

Nothing new. Companies do it all the time.

Wait to see if it ever becomes available through Steam, Amazon or Ebay.

Time to start writing to your representatives to maybe raise the issue with the federal government.

Grind those gears towards official channels. They're the ones who can do something about it.

Seems odd, they should just bang you for the extra shipping.

As for getting the state involved, lol, ok. Must be a Euro.
