Any advice would be welcomed :(
Hope someone can help me :( having an issue trying to recover my main steam account I broke my PC over 6 months ago and I've changed the password round a mates house and forgot it ( I know stupid) I've followed the recovery procedure.

I click on I forgot my Steam Account name or password (then entered my account email) it found an account associated with the email address and sent me an account verification code.

- so far so good, once I put the code in it brought up three accounts one of the accounts is the one I mentioned above the other one has my alias and must be a really old one that I've forgotten about... then I noticed another account and I don't recognize the name or picture is it possible someone could have used my email address to make a steam account ? :S Anyway I continued trying to recover my main account, the next section was asking me what was blocking me from signing in I clicked on change password It brought up an old number I definitely no longer have access to but I did recognise it and could possibly provide proof it was mine.

I clicked on I no longer have access.. and then it asked me to enter my password for the account like some kind of loop I clicked on I forgot password it brought up proof of purchase and the last two digits matched my bank details so I entered my details and got the following message "Steam failed to verify credit card. Please try again." So I continued to keep trying I even tried my old address but it wouldn't work I occasionally get the message "The information you've entered doesn't match our transaction records"

I've read the requirements for the recovery process and it says that credit or debit cards are ok for recovering an account?

when i submitted a ticket I was told I would need to provide the CD key from well over 20 years ago I don't have any CD key or any photo of it any more just hundreds of bank transitions and access to the recovery email.

Guess what I'm asking is there anything I can do? can I contact steam about the visa card as it's 100% my card that I've used on the account just won't work when I put my address in?

Sorry for the rant just quite gutted about losing this account.

Cheers

Tell support that you just need to change the paswword by email, because you forgot it.
You have proof of ownership and access to the email.
Should not be that difficult.

Hi Mate,

Is it possible to share tickets? I explained my situation in a ticket and was told that I need to provide a CD KEY I assumed he meant for half life (counter strike) which is pretty much the only game I played on the account and I bought that over 20 years ago I think when you had to update half-life then install counter strike then update that! from the old pc mag disks.

I do have steam purchases in my emails I bought rocket league but it doesn't provide any CD key
Tell them what you know.
Things only the owner can know. If its the old email, the better.

Make it obvious you are the owner.

Never share a ticket.

The guy on the other end of the ticket was having none of it... despite me explaining how ridiculous it was.

I've created a new ticket with screenshots of purchases and old addresses :( hopefully, this will work.

This is the response I originally received.

Hi there,

We appreciate you're willing to provide your ID but for now in order to recover this account, we must verify your ownership of the original CD Key that was used to create this Steam account.

Please hand-write your Support Ticket Number on the quick reference card or sticker above the CD Key (the number should not be written on a separate piece of paper or inserted with an image editor) and reply with a digital photo or scan of the CD Key in .jpg format. Please ensure that you submit a full-color image, rather than a photocopy.

If you have any difficulty locating the CD Key on the packaging, please click here for help.

Example scans:

After verifying your proof of ownership we will gladly assist you with this issue.

Best Regards,
Dian

my half-life case will be long gone by now over 20 year ago

Tell them that you dont have that after these years.
Tell them what you know about it. Date, etc.

And the other purchase proofs.
The first email, and that you just want to reset password with the connected email.

Back then steam asked for security questions. You could tell the answers......

Make it obvious that you are the owner.
Better remove the ticket number. No need for it here.

I appreciate what you're saying mate! but the ticket went back and forth a little bit with me explaining that I had access to the email and just needed to reset the password I even asked for an explanation as to why it clearly says

"Providing Proof of Ownership Please provide verification of one or more of the following purchase methods when you contact Steam Support: Credit Cards
Visa, American Express, Carte Bleue, Discover, JCB, MasterCard"

and when I try to enter this information it just breaks, but again was just told to provide a CD KEY.

I've removed the ticket number (thanks for that)
If the old game box is the only thing you dont have, and you have all other purchase proofs and access to the current email,
work with support.

Tell them the first email too.

And if it really does not work out, maybe write to the boss of steam. Tell him your ticket number and that the current process prevents owners of accounts access to their accounts.
