Is it within Steam's TOS to sell inventory games for irl cash?
I've had this one game in my inventory for about four years now and I have no idea what to do with it. I'm selling some stuff around my house to get enough to buy a new graphics card, and thought this could contribute to it. But is it legal even though it's through gifting? Wouldn't it just be like gifting a game and taking money for it afterwards? that's what is called selling, duh
I know Steam doesn't like third party transactions, but I couldn't find anything about this.

Not really, but if it's cash in hand before you gift it to the person, you should be OK.
Or at least don't confirm the trade till you've been paid. Then if they have their Steam app, they can instantly accept the trade.

It's against their TOS.

You are asking to get scammed. And the games are not really your's anyway. You have a license to use the content and services as agreed upon. That is for your personal use only, except where specifically noted in your agreement. (family sharing, ex.)

He's asking about selling a game to someone he knows in the real world for real world cash in his hand. Kinda hard to get scammed as long as he doesn't confirm the trade till after he's been paid.

Also, it sounds like the game in question is an old gift copy of the game that's sitting in his inventory. So it's up to him who he gives it to.

May I kindly ask, where do we get that he knows this person in real life, from reading the OP ?

Sorry, I did not get that vibe.

The thread title says "irl cash" (In real life cash). If that's what he's doing it should be fine, as long as he doesn't confirm the trade till he's got the cash in his hand.

Yes, that is true, but when I read that, I interpreted it a bit differently, which if as you said, I am sorry and was mistaken/misinterpreted it.

I'm thinking someone I can speak to through the phone while doing the transaction. No matter what, I know I won't get scammed (eg. they go first or what not.) Also, people here in Denmark are pretty polite, and using Mobilepay (which is a localised version of Paypal) you can't reverse your transaction.
But thank you for your input :-)

People can go first and still scam you. Never heard of a chargeback I guess?

Not to mention if the game is from years ago its probably barely worth anything too.

Depends on the game, removed games, especially old ones can command hundreds of dollars each.

You can't reverse the transaction with the service I intend to use, like I said. If I can get €5 for it I'm happy.

99.9% of removed games are worth very little because all the inventory of unsold keys can still be redeemed.

Even if the service says you can't do a chargeback you can still do a charge back directly from your credit card.

It's your account, selling for RL money puts your entire steam account at risk and breaks their TOS.

You most likely won't get banned, but you could also theoretically lose your entire steam account over it.

Just realised it has gone down in value with a lot. What a shame :cozypoechris: I'll probably just keep until I feel generous enough.
Tricus Jul 19, 2019 @ 5:34pm
Yep, that's why I asked here :-) Don't want to lose my account for whatever reason. But I'll just stick to in-Steam actions for now since I can't get much for it no matter what.
