Constant "1" message, though I have no new messages
For the past few days, the little mail icon has been highlighted green with a "1" next to it even when I have no new PM's or whatnot.

Any tips on how to fix this would be appreciated.

I have just done so. Went to some chat screen, checked to see that I've not received any chat messages, typed a test chat bubble... and I *still* have the issue in question.

The most recent or perhaps reliable method I have seen mentioned, is clearing the message queue in the Steam mobile app.

Not sure if it still works but clicking the message notification while in Big Picture mode has worked for some in the past.

Other than that, there was a steam shortcut launch option "-no-browser" which would make steam open with the old friend list / chat GUI. That was effective for some too, but might have been for the Beta client version, not sure.

Possibly there was another suggestion other than what Robin3sk already mentioned, but I'm not certain.
