Stuck on First Time Setup
Just reinstalled Windows and Steam. I've tried all of the advice on the other threads I found via Google. I have disabled my antivirus and firewall. I have cleared the download cache, I have reintalled Windows C++ my DirectX is totally up to date. I notice Crypt of the Necrodancer will show Running briefly before Syncing then no activity, but the game does not launch at all.

which game? and have you tried going into command prompt or reinstalling C# because i think steam runs on C# but im not sure, and you may be able to fix it by ending a certain task or process in the task manager, that fixes lots of problems with my games especially ubisoft ones

Oh, sorry. Crypt of the Necrodancer. I'll try the C# thing. As far as the Task Manager I had Edge and the Microsoft Store and Settings running alongside Steam and nothing else. i even watched what the Task Manager showed as it tried to run the game and it didn't give me anything useful.

I also tried just running the application from the Steamapps folder and it said it was missing a DLL despite the File Verifier saying everything was okay.

What .dll file does it say is missing ?

Sounds like software may be causing issues with the first time setup of the game, possibly.

What is your antivirus program ? Disabled is not always good enough, depending on what that antivirus is. Some still have background processes that can run even with the parent program disabled.

You said you reinstalled Windows, so what Windows OS do you have ?

All drivers up to date, not just GPU drivers ? OS fully updated also ?
I use Avast and the dll missing is d3dx9_43.dll

Edit: I looked up how to fix it and tried running the DirectX End User installer and an internal system error occurred and I'm trying to find the relevant logs.

Edit: the DirectX log shows repeated occurances of:

06/19/19 22:10:06: dxupdate: DirectXUpdateInstallPlugIn(): Plug-In dxdllreg_x86.cab does not exist.
06/19/19 22:10:06: dxupdate: -----

and it says the installation of DirectX failed.

@Seolyk

Your last reply only answered one two of my previous questions. Make sure Avast is totally leaving Steam and games alone in real time scanning. Make exceptions for Steam and the games in Avast.

Please read my last reply again and answer the other questions. Thanks.

Sorry, Windows 10. And actually probably not. I'll start doing that
