Gift send to the wrong person
I sent my friend a gift through the trading options when his account was offline. But now I checked the history and the person who has accepted the offer is not his account. It has the exact same picture and name but is level 1 and we are not friend on steam. I don't understand how this happened as I went on his profile and sent him the trade. Not this random guy. What should I do?

Secure your account as you probably gave away your credentials to a phishing site and before you said you didn't you have a 3rd party site in your name history so you do or have used them before.

- Scan your computer. (Optional).
- Deauthorize all other devices.
- Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App.
- Change your password. (Email optional) on a secure device.
- Revoke the API key.

The items are gone once they are traded and left the account.

Oh okay thank you
Can steam not do anything now even if I give them sufficient evidence?

As said in post #1, you likely gave your credentials away including the auth code to a 3rd party phishing site. Your account was then hijacked without your knowledge where the scammers were able to then compromise your API key used to control trades. This means any trades you confirm get automatically cancelled and then redirected to a impersonating scam account instead which you then confirm via your phone and your items are lost.

You must complete all the steps given above in the first response to properly secure your account. This will revoke access that any hijackers still have and protect your account going forward. Be extremely vigilant when you log into Steam outside of the platform.

You can try contacting support if you want, but no guarantees. Simply explain the issue, and clearly.

How do I contact support? I have been looking everywhere

They will not return any items.

Follow the instructions for making sure that your account is secure and do not EVER use off-steam sites with any of your steam login information. That's 100% how this happened.

Don't waste supports time with this as they can't (won't) do anything about this.

But why was this other guy pretending to be my friend? - same name and pic
He compromised your account so he changed his account name and pic so if you would’ve checked the trade it would’ve looked like you were still trading to the same guy, making you not suspicious

oh okay thanks!

If you’ve done all the steps for securing your account again then you should be safe but I’d wait about a week or two before trading just in case, sometimes scammers just lose interest. But that’s just me.
