P.S.: Maybe you can run it briefly with open case to see, if my guess is right. This way you can also check, if there's simply a loose cable or something else, that can be fixed more easily.
P.P.S.: From my experience, an overheating processor rather smells like ozone than smoke. Could there be something else stuck in there?
Turn the power supply OFF.
Unplug the computer.
Open it, visually check every component for damage.

My guess would be a dying PSU.
