Cannot connect to Steam
Everything else works that is internet related, games, websites etc....I uninstalled steam after trying various fixes, still won't connect. It stays in the checking for available updates window for 3 or 4 minutes then after a bit an error pops up saying "Steam Fatal Error" Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again.

Boot into safe mode with networking. Bypass any and all wireless connections and hardware. Use ethernet only directly to the modem.

Make sure all device drivers are fully up to date. Check the manufacturer's website, and not simply by running Windows update, depending on your OS.

By doing all that, you have eliminated many of the most common causes we have seen here.

The safe mode with networking suggestion is only a test, and not a permanent solution. If you see it work fine in that safe boot, you have a software conflict in a normal boot of Windows that is causing the connection issue.

Yea, that is known to cause issues with Steam. Glad you mentioned that.

If you have an MSI board or the Killer Network Access Manager installed, it is usually recommended to have the Killer device driver only, and get rid of that Manager software. We have seen it cause issues with Steam in the past.

Thanks for the reply on how you fixed it, and well done.
