Have you lost all your games on your external hard drive?

If you can't find the games you downloaded on you external hard drive after re-visiting steam try this.
1) Go to "steam" in the top left and click "settings"

2) Go downloads on the pop up and choose "steam libary folders" under "content libaries"

3) Go to add libary folder

4) sleect where you've saved your games to if need be you may need to change the drive your looking in at the top of the pop up (I had to)

5) add it

6) and hopefully your games on your external hard drive should be back in your libary

Hopefully this'll help anyone who's confused I was when I started having to use an external hard drive it's now just something simple and easy to do now.

There can be other issues with using externals that are not related to Steam itself. Such as power saving issues for the drive going to sleep at inopportune times, as well as security program issues maybe (antivirus).

It's mostly why Steam is not recommened to be used with externals, games installed ther either.

Yes, you can do it and it works, but many don't know or are not aware of how to set it up properly to avoid issues, so it is simply "not recommended".

I agree but I my laptop hasn't got much internal memory and I'm not playing anything in a pvp multiplayer setting so it's how I in a way get around performance issues.

It's mostly just a little thing people could try if they're confused, plus I just saw no harm in it.
