Which version of Linux has the most compatibility with steam?
Thinking of making 2 gaming rigs with one having a Linux OS. I was thinking between lime and ubuntu.

SteamOS

For mainstream versions, if memory serves the Steam client was developed specifically for Debian but any of the distros based off of Debian should handle Steam with no issues. Likely any major general purpose distros will have little problems.

I think it's Ubuntu. Isn't that the distro that is officially supported by Valve?

Ubuntu is our favorite version of Linux. Interested in giving it a whirl?
I stand somewhat corrected. (Ubuntu's based of Debian so I'm claiming partial accuracy!)

ubuntu is the one steamos started with but honestly linux is absolutely terrible for gaming, literally the worst OS you could pick for gaming

If the game has native support for Linux, it can run great on it.

It is less about gaming and more about the lack of games for Linux.

Should not really matter which Linux distri you use, as long as the needed libraries/drivers are installed.

if the game has no native support for linux (literally the majority of all games on the market, without exaggeration, a fact.) then it runs like poo using third party software like wine or mono.

I suggest re-reading what I said as that was stated.

I suggest you re-read what you said. Lack of games has nothing to do with gaming? wut?

"It is less about gaming and more about the lack of games for Linux."

Games run well on Linux, if native to it. Linux is great for gaming due to low resource useage and performance, in the case of Linux native games.

The lack of games is the only issue when it comes to Linux. So gaming is fine with Linux, but the lack of games is the issue.

Lack of games does not = not good for gaming.

As I said, linux is not for gaming and it never will be. It will ALWAYS be on the bottom tier for gaming OS. just like it sits right now.

Linux gaming is actualy growing among indi developers and some AAA developers.

Linux can be fine for gaming, just needs more games available.
