Gifting changed

Why in the hell would they change that then pass it off as cool? I've seen some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but this one takes the cake. How am I supposed to buy games on sale, then gift them to my community when we do give-aways, now? I guess I am going to have to magically know when ♥♥♥♥ is on sale and time them around that now. Plus magically know who will win what, and get them a steam account setup prior if they don't already(which alot don't). I also like the new system where you can't even get to the point of filling out a support ticket now, and are stuck posting here. *facedesks*

I agree this is the worst. I often compared Steam to other game platforms from Ubisoft to Playstation. Saying things like why buy it elsewhere Steam is awesome. I can give people their gifts on their birthday electronically. They don't show up early which you can still do, but getting people to set up their accounts is always the real trick. I've introduced so many people to steam this way. I just gave gifts I've had for my nephew for years. He opened his Steam account and I gave him gifts I bought more than a year ago. I figured his brother may like Skyrim so I went to purchase and send to him....oops can't do it.
I realize this happened a while back but doesn't make it any less bad either way. Just means more of my purchasing options are reduced. I'll still buy games but no longer give away games I enjoy every on so often since I won't have them in my inventory.

@Valve what are you doing? i was 100% willing and able to give you money from my wallet to buy a game for my freind, but you won't let me do it because of "regional price difference" BS. Why not let me pay in my freind's currency price or something then!? hell, why should it matter!? you already overcharge like hell for canadian games, so i'm paying eighty bucks for a game that only costs sixty in the US!

FFS man i just wanted to buy some christmas gift for a fr4eind and you pull this ♥♥♥♥, let us give gifts again!

Erm, dude, cross-region gifting with different prices has been an issue (meaning it simply didnt work) long before this change. The only change is that now, you know that it wont work before buying. Back then, you had to buy and then issue a refund request.

if i can not buy a game for a freind directly, then it is an issue. they may as well not have a gift giving option at all if they won't let us use it.

My point is, this has been an issue long before the change got implemented so i dont see why youre ranting at this change.

Once the difference in price exceeds 10% after currency conversion, the risk for users to abuse the gifting to get cheap games again skyrockets. It is not going to change.

That is why the added the digital gift cards.

Then fix the problem with people who abuse the system! don't take away gifing alltogether! all that is doing is preventing legitimate paying customers form actually USING the system! The only thing they have done is lost the support of thousands!

Exactly. So canada can not buy for the states, the states can not buy for canada, neither can buy for mexico, hell, basically any one country can not buy for any other country.

There are still thousands of games available for gifting. Talk to the publishers and ask them to set the prices of their games to be under 10% difference after currency conversion.

Yelling won't change anything.

Use the digital cards or purchase else where.

"Don't buy food at a grocery store! First go to the libary and put your money into library cards! then pay for your food with those library cards instead of with the money you already had in your wallet!"

It's an uneccicary extra step, rather then letting the customer go from point A to point B they now need to go through steps C and D just so a freind can get a game that won't even be a surprise anymore.

And that's not even adressing the issues of not being able to hold games in your inventory to give out later, or not being able to send steam games to emails, allowing people who otherwise wouldn't have steam accounts to join with steam and potentually become future customers.

The issue kind of resolved itself; I don't buy direct from Steam anymore with my money or my community's money. If you know of any other good sites I'd appreciate it, the ones I use atm:
