Sorry that's the first thing that popped in my little tired brain.
hey, nah the fan is working, I opened my case and it wass operating.
I checked three apps, realtemp, open hardware, and AIDA64. all around 23 idle... I really dont know what the problem is...
My 6700K idles at 20c.
Your temps really shouldn't be behaving like that, basic tasks like copying files should have little impact on your CPU compared to games like Alien Isolation.
When your PC is idle, pull up task manager and see how much load is on the CPU, it shouldn't be more than 5%ish.
have you ever had this problem? I have a 6700k as well. I tried asking all over reddit, and Tomshardware but nobody really bothers to help
My CPU spikes a little when Steam is downloading, but when steam is idle it uses 0 CPU and just a few MB of RAM.
And what are your temps?
24C
So now your PC is idle and cool, try copying some files about and see if the CPU temps spike. It could have just been because Steam was installing something, and you were trying to copy files at the same time.
i deleted the old folder and recopied it. spiked to about 60C. Tried going to the steam store, and spiked to 59C :/
I don't think you have anything to worry about. Skylake idles really cool, but heats up quite quickly, a 4th gen I7 would idle much hotter, so when you did something, the temp spike wasn't that massive. It's not that your CPU is getting too hot, it's just idling really cool.
50c is half the TJ Max and Skylake CPU's can run in the 80's no problem.
If this is still bothering you, all I can suggest is that you try applying the thermal paste to the CPU again, when you did it the first time, maybe you used a little bit too much.
