Access Denied [0x5]

When I try logging into a game, it says "access deied 0x5." I tried running it in admin permissions, restarting the PC and steam and I also tried verifying integrity, but none worked. Can anyone help me with this?

I'm not that good with changing files, so can anyone give me a breif explanation? Thanks

Most games on Steam don't need to be logged into. What game are you talking about?

The point is, if it only happens in one game, it might be more useful to ask in the game forum as this isn't a general Steam problem anymore.
But we can do some generic troubleshooting nontheless. Start your system in safe mode, does the same happen?

In safe mode most of OPs apps will not work anyway so don't bother. You only really need to use safe mode when cleaning a PC of malware, when you want to remove a driver or when fixing issues with conflicting software. I highly doubt this is a conflicting software issue.

What I would do is first try the good old file integrity check and if that doesn't work I would. manually remove the The Escapists 2 game folder in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common" and reinstall the game. If you are unable to remove the game folder or a certain file tell us.

Did you see if your anti-virus isn't blocking the game? Mine did and after okaying the game as safe it now works again.

I have similar problems ! However I found out that it happens only with the games that DOES NOT HAVE A VALID SIGNED DIGITAL SIGNATURE ! THE GAMES WITH A VALID SIGNED DIGITAL SIGNATURE ARE ALL WORKING !

To be honest, I've yet to see any game with a valid digital signature. How do you check those signatures?

Right click on the executable and click on Properties and navigate to the Certificate tab. If there isn't one then it isnt' digitally signed.

A lot of modern games are digitally signed, as it is a way to ensure an executable haven't been tampered with.

hi I've just bought a new laptop this is happening to me I tried all of the above and the game still won't run, to be honest I'm confused about what to do older games never have a certificate so I'm stuck can anyone help
