How do I trade badges?

You don't. They are just shown on the profile once you craft a set.
What makes you think you can trade badges?

Ages ago I asked how do I rank-up my levels and somebody told me I have to trade badges. I've been stuck on the same level for over a year and I have no idea how I was ranking up. The achievements don't work out like the PS trophies. The Steam achievements don't appear to give us anything.
Get Cards, craft Them to Badges, ez Rank up
You trade (or purchase) Steam Trading Cards. Cards are used to craft badges. Badges give 100Exp when you craft them.
Achievements don't give you anything but the achievement on Steam.

Let's start here:

First, you were level 6 a year ago. If you do nothing, you'll reach level 8 next March. This is due to the years of service badge that gives you 50 XP for every year you've been on Steam.

The next suggestion I have is do the tasks listed here. You can easily get another 300 XP just by doing community tasks.

Most badges are gained by collecting a full set of cards for a game. Each game you have that drops cards will drop cards equal to half the total number of cards needed to craft the badge, rounded up. You're expected to trade cards in order to get a full set. Some people just buy off the market, other people make use of handy resources like www.steamcardexchange.ne and http://www.steamtradematcher.com/
And become a level 8 by the time the Winter sale starts to get free Winter sale cards for doing specific tasks during the sale.

I'll add that the benefits of leveling up your profile are very limited. They include:

  • Like Hotsauce said, after level 8 you qualify for free cards during the winter and summer sales. You can either use these to level up further, or sell them on the market.
  • Higher level means more friends list spots. This actually doesn't make a huge difference unless you somehow add so many people as friends that you fill up your existing friends list. You start with 250 friends and get another 5 per level. Plus another 50 for linking your Facebook Profile.
    • That means at level 90 I have used 339/750 potential friends slots. and I'm someone who accepts all random adds because people like to add me for trading reasons.
    • This also means that at level 7, you currently have a limit of 285 friends, or 335 if you linked your Facebook. So don't go thinking you need to do this for your friends list.
  • Every 10 levels increases your odds of randomly getting a booster pack. Note these drops are kinda rare to begin with.
  • Every 10 levels you get a "Profile Showcare". Just a silly little thing you can add to your profile to show something.
  • Higher level accounts are listed first on the profile friends list of people they are friends with.
  • You get to just have a larger number attached to your name.

It is just a thing you can do if you feel like it. It doesn't make you special, it doesn't make you better than anyone, and of the few benefits it provides only the first one is of any REAL value. Booster drops are few and far between, even at my level and with the sheer volume of qualifying games I only get maybe 1 booster drop a month.

I mean, I guess if you're someone who accepts way more friend requests than any sensable person should be adding then you might have a need for more than 300 friends. But realistically any sane person is unlikely to need more than 300.
