Trojan Detected
A file name libavcodec is showing as a trojan generic virus. Steam is trying to update but cannot. The process of updating is going on without anything happening. I deleted the file (libavcodec) but it recreated itself and my antivirus is still showing it as a trojan generic virus. For now I have deleted steam from my laptop. What should I do next?

Tell your AV to ignore the whole Steam folder. Thats a great way to bypass this and several other kinds of issues.

This....

Any security process needs to be leaving Steam and games alone in real-time scanning. Make the exceptions and try again, please.

Verify the game files in the case there is a game giving issues instead of Steam.
First:

Second:
What AV are you using, Dastan?
I have exactly the same issue. I'm using Quick Heal AV. The AV keeps on deleting that file and hence steam doesn't work anymore. Isn't it pointless to have an AV if i'm going to make it ignore potentially dangerous files?
It's a false positive as mentioned before, add it to your exception list in your Antivirus and let Steam redownload the file.

Steam files arent potentially dangerous. Or dangerous at all. But if you prefer, add onky this file to the exception list and do the same with every other file your paranoid AV stumbles upon.
It's most likely a false positive. I have had my AV have false positives with some Steam games in the past.
see same thing happened to me yesterday.Of course its a virus. i am giving you a solution , but its not a proper solution.Actually i have find a way to ignore that.
1.type windows key+r
2.write msconfig
3.there you can see the startup tab, click and unmark quickheal
4.restart your pc
5.Steam will take its update and it will be opened
6.after that open your quick heal...
