Steam Client Loads Library And Nothing Else
I've gone through many tutorials and discussions here but for the last few days while using my client, everything but the Library page will load. I've tried all the tips and tricks that I've seen here, excluding Steam from my antivirus and firewall, even reinstalling the client itself. All the compatibility boxes are unchecked in windows boxes as well.

Steam has been updated recently and I am not in the beta client updates either, so I'm at a loss of what to do now. Any further information or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks very much for your time.

[EDIT: SOLVED thanks to this:

That was the post I was looking for. Again, sorry for the multiposting, but want to be sure you see this.

I had to turn my windows updates off in order to get the update to work, which was causing problems! There's some troubleshooting in this thread between myself and Giving One, but hopefully our conversation helps others.!]

I'll see if this fixes the issues - thanks very much!

Not sure if the windows update is just...stuck or if it's really trying to take an hour to look for something?

I did a little more digging and it seems that steamwebhelper may be the culprit as it is looking for a DLL that I apparently don't have - yet the WinUpdate that people suggest doesn't seem to be working either.

I have seen that mentioned in a thread here somewhere also, but cannot seem to find it right now. Try this, doing the steps exactly...........

Reinstall Steam

The Steam installer can be downloaded here: http://store.steampowered.com/about/ and reinstalled to the same location where it is already installed.

This may fix potential issues with Steam client and service files. Installing into same location will preserve all installed games.

WARNING! Uninstalling Steam will delete all game content.

This simply overwrites the existing installation, and may replace the missing .dll file.

Thank you for the help, but I tried this and it wasn't able to fix the problem. I appreciate your input though, as I'm at a loss.

Looking into the .dll issue, apparently Steam itself doesn't install it and is looking for a new one that I'm not able to get through this method, nor the way that others have suggested as it doesn't seem to want to install either.

I'm on an older Win7 laptop which may be part of the problem too since it's no longer supported by Microsoft?. I have Service Pack 1 as well, so I'm not sure why the update from Microsoft itself isn't working. It's just strange because I haven't had any issue until just recently.

Sorry, but what do you mean here by "no longer supported" ?

Go to the official manufacturer's website and check for any and all device driver updates. I cannot say that will help, but worth a shot. Meantime, I will keep looking for the other post concerning that .dll file issue I have seen around here. You may be able to use the forum search box and find it before I do, in case you wish to try. You can search by filtering the results for "time" also.

Oh, just that they've moved on to Windows 10 is what I meant but 'no longer supported.' I don't believe they're updating the windows updates for Win7 any longer? I may be incorrect in that statement though.

Thanks! I'll keep searching and see if I can find a solution as well.
Yes, as long as it is an older laptop and it is supported for Windows 7 (should be no issues here), then you should definitely make sure Windows 7 on it is fully and completely up to date. The update mentioned may need to be installed manually, although I assume you have tried that already.

Making sure all device drivers, as well as Windows itself, are fully up to date is never a bad idea. So do that, please, first. Then the forum search and I will keep looking as well. Hope to reply with the post I saw soon. Thanks.

EDIT..If you know the exact .dll file missing, posting that may help.

Sorry about the double-post here............

Is the .dll file mentioned here in this thread title the one missing maybe ?

http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/1484358860945664306/

Every single thread I can find on this issue here lately points to being sure Windows is fully up to date. If in Windows 7, SP 1 needs to be installed too, of course, this needed also to be up to date.

All these threads point to the same symptoms...Steam is "broken" everywhere except in the user's library, just like your title post here.

After fighting with my windows updates, I tried this trick and was having some problems with it. Decided to download it, turn off my Windows Update autochecking and tried to install this update and it seems to have fixed the problem. I'm answering you from my browser in my client right now.

I figured I'd best say that I had to turn off the automatically checking for updates because this install from MS was just...stuck for the longest time. It must have been having some conflicts, but this problem is now solved, just in case anyone finds this from Google as well. :)

Thank you SO much for all your help and sugggestions. :D
Hey that's great. Thanks for the reply you found some of this helpful, as well as the additional information. That may help others here also.

Sometimes, Windows 7 can be funny about the settings for automatic updating, as you described. For example, hangs in updates that never seem to install.

Check Microsoft forums or search for a hotfix, as there "may" be one for that for your system. Otherwise, good luck to you always.
i also encountered the same error, i have many ways to do, searching on google, youtube, community steam but still not working well, urgh this is very annoying

Hilariously enough, I managed to fix this problem and it immediately updated for October windows updates too. Something must have been screwy with my Windows Updates. Thanks for the advice though - if I keep having problems with the updates in the future, I will check out any hotfixes, but I think this may have helped.
