Shows that the codes are known to be problematic

First and foremost, how did you pay him? You can still get your money back in most cases. Talk to us before blindly trusting whatever the seller says. Do not accept anything from his end before speaking with us.

Many of these scammers know tricks to get out of having to return your money.

This. Call the number on the back of the card and explain the situation to them. Tell them you would like them to issue a chargeback.

If they ask for more details, explain the situation but here are the key points:

  • The seller did not deliver legitimate goods as promised.
  • You only found out after the fact that they were not a legitimate key reseller, and they were in fact committing an act of fraud.

The sooner you get this taken care of, the better. So it really should be the very next thing you do.

Basically, select the transaction in your paypall account. Look for "Report a problem". You'll be given 3 options for what the problem is, you want "I didn’t receive an item I purchased or the item I received was significantly not as described".

Continue through those options to issue the chargeback.

This should take care of it for you. And you should do this. You can stop reading my post right now if you want, but if you want to know a few bits of cautionary warning, keep reading.

Your only other option would be for the scammer to comply with a refund. Note that he has a very obvious button to "issue a refund" which would be the thing he would need to click, but he prolly will try and talk his way out of clicking. If the scammer tries to offer to simply send you money in a different transaction, you should refuse. The reason for this is because if you accept that, then all he has to do is wait a few months and issue a chargeback on the money he sent you.

You *can* send them an email insisting they issue a refund. However, as I warned, the *ONLY* refund you should accept is if they actually click the big shiny "refund" button. If they try to send you money instead of refunding the money, do not accept it.
