Steam FPS Counter does not work
I've always had it enabled and it just stopped working one day out of nowhere. Any suggestions for a fix?

I am assuming you have actually checked the setting, however not stating so here in the OP ?

Because I have seen my settings change on my Steam here, after a Steam update.

For example, the URL visibility setting has unticked itself twice on my Steam, after a Steam update. Go to your settings menu and make sure you have it set correctly , please.

EDIT..Steam in the top left, then settings, then In-game. There you see it about mid way down on the left.

Yes, of course I checked it. Thought about mentioning that but I figured the obvious didn't need mentioning haha. I tried disabling it/enabling it. It just won't work for some reason. I know that after updates Steam will sometimes turn it off but each time that's happened I have turned it on again and it worked no problem.

Hmmm...that's strange. Sadly, I cannot remember specifically seeing this posted about before, so cannot offer other suggestions....but......

I would always use the forum search. Here, I have searched for you using very basic and broad terms. See if what others did or attempted in this case maybe will help you also.

Thank you for that. So according to some of the posts, the only thing i can possibly think of is recently I have started playing games with a 360 controller. I would occasionally use big picture mode but the fps counter does not work IN and OUT of big picture mode, so I still can't understand the issue. Hm

I would suggest you try anything and consider all possibilities, just in case it's relevant. I have not seen this posted about before here, so it may be pretty rare whatever can cause it, or if multiple things can cause it.

True, thank you for taking the time to respond. Appreciate it

You are welcome. Please update the thread if you find what caused it. That surely may help others in the future if they get the same issue. Thanks.

In what games is the issue occuring? if it's non-steam games...they don't support Steam Overlay and will not show you the reading.

Every game I try. I don't have any non-steam titles.

This happened to me and it was definitely enabling the xbox control scheme in big picture that disabled the FPS overlay. Even though I didn't open big picture to do it.

Yeah, this is intentional in an indirect way. If you use Steams controller stuff then you use big picture in-game and that doesn't have a FPS counter.
To avoid this don't use steams controller stuff/big picture or use another fps counter.

I have found a solution, in my case it was steam overlay that was disabled in game.

I have the same issue.Sometimes I need to restart the whole computer to get it to work. Seems like if it is working then it is ok until I exit the game. Does not matter what game it is either. I been trying to figure out what causes it for years it seems. I have changed computers several times also. Same thing.

I just figured it out...it was happening to me. Go to Steam/settings/In game and then uncheck the box for 'use the big picture overlay......'. That has worked for me. :-)

I have MAYBE a solution. Its not only the checked box on Steam for Steam Overlay. You must go to your libary - right click the game you wanna play und check the Box for Steam Overlay.

I hope this helps
