Do you see Steam Bootstrapper in Task Manager? Or has Steam completely disappeared?

i weirdly had this problem the past two days as well. What worked for me is rebooting my computer and trying agian. Altho! that's kinda annoying if you have a slow booting computer, and also it is maybe something you already tried.

Those attempts to correct it seem to be aimed at the idea that Steam is the problem.

But what it sounds like is a conflict with other software running on your computer.

Antivirus, for example, or other security processes or regular programs. Run msconfig from Windows Start and have a look at the services tab and startup tab to see what is running on your computer.

For example, programs like CCleaner have a monitoring mode setting menu that should be totally disabled, if you have that program. That has been known to cause issues with Steam/games.

What is your antivirus program and any other security software you may be using ?

Disabled is not always good enough. Some antivirus progarms have child process that can still run in the background and conflict.

Boot into safe mode with networking and test Steam launching there. If you have no problems in safe mode with networking, you surely have a software conflict in a normal boot. This is an easy and quick test to try to narrow down if it is software related.

That is not correct. It is safe mode WITH networking. Not just safe mode.

And did you remove all those compatability settings and run as admin settings ? You should not need those anyway.

Do this.

Boot into safe mode with networking and reinstall a fresh client over the existing exact path where it is installed now. STAY in safe mode with networking and then try to launch Steam afterwards. DO NOT boot into normal Windows yet.

You can post here while in safe mode WITH networking.

Reinstall Steam

The Steam installer can be downloaded here: http://store.steampowered.com/about/ and reinstalled to the same location where it is already installed.

This may fix potential issues with Steam client and service files. Installing into same location will preserve all installed games.

WARNING! Uninstalling Steam will delete all game content.

Can you please stop replying with simply "safe mode" ?

If you don't reply adding "with networking", I can only assume you are not doing it correctly.

You must have networking enabled in the boot options menu.
