Games crashing can also be due to conflicting software that does not get along with Steam/games.
Do the following, please. Read it all very carefully and follow the steps fully.
1. Take screenshots of all of the programs you have installed on your computer. Control panel then programs/programs and features. (Windows 7,8,8.1) or "apps" (Windows 10 click "Start" (Windows icon on bottom left))
2. Click Windows Start and type in msconfig and run that resulting process. Go to the services tab and check the box on bottom "Hide all Microsoft services". Take screenshots of all that is left.
3. Then go to the startup tab on top of that same window(Task Manager in W10). Take screenshots of all that there also.
Post all the links to the above screenshots here, using a file hosting site such as imgur.com

(just look at all those McAfee childs in the msconfig window. Surely that is all causing issues.

LogMeIn Hamachi. Has been seen to conflict with Steam/games. Also temporarily uninstall it.
(has the child process LMI Guardian that you can see in msconfig)
Intel Security Service..this is one to watch as it may also be causing issues. Any "Security service" should be considered suspect.
Skype Updater....may conflict with Steam and/or games in some cases. Consider temporarily disabling it in msconfig then "apply" and "ok". Then restart the computer.
You must restart also if you uninstall any software, such as McAfee and LogMeIn Hamachi.
No wonder you have game crashes. I am surprised they will even launch, especially will all those McAfee processes running. Do these steps THEN verify the game files before you playtest a game.

EDIT..I think you missed number 3 in my post above. I don't see a startup tab shot, in case that may be a bit different for some reason than the Task Manager shot. Submit that also, if what was suggested so far (including what the good Seven7 posted below) does not solve the issue.
flux - terrible thing, it work like trojan (yes, i know, it for changing light&gamma, but on TN2 LCD its make terrible problems, and with Steam too)
if you don't use DLNA - disable ralink media server(too big hole in security)
since july,11 steam client have problem with most VPM clients, after uninstall, re-build winsocks
Well if I get rid of my anti-virus then what do I do then? I got a virus on my old PC like 6 years ago and I really don't want to make the same mistake.
