Can a Half Life 2 Mod be made paid here on Steam?
I see PROSPEKT is a fan-made mod made by 1 person, and costs 10$. (Please i dont want opinions about PROSPEKT, i just ask a question)

So, how is it done, is it necessary to be in USA, and no meetings etc? Was it a single case, or anyone from any country can bring a mod to steam, (greenlight is gone) and make it paid, ie approved by VALVe?

Previously, you could submit source games or mods based on source games through Steam Greenlight. Greenlight has been shut down. If you wish to submit a game, you will have to submit it through Steam Direct.

Yeah i have read it, but it doesnt say anything about a mod for half-life 2. A mod for a valve game. Can they 'approve' it to be sold, like PROSPEKT did?

Edit: Thanks for the reply, this might be the only one i will get.

If you had read the information in both of those links then you should have found this:

(see 4th question down)
https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/sdk/uploading/distributing_source_engine

If you have a question that isn't answered by the documentation, you can ask here:
https://help.steampowered.com/en/wizard/HelpWithPublishing?issueid=923

Howerver, your question already appears to be answered in the documentation.

Hm. I didnt see that. Strange. Thank you kind sir/madam :)

By the way the last link i thought was a signature and i ignored it, but well, steam doesnt have any.

Considering Black Mesa, a fan made remake of Half Life 1 is being sold on Steam, which started as a Sourcemod, i'd say yes.

But they were americans i think, this means they are in the same country as valve is. Anyway the questions are cleared, i will close this thread.

For any Source Engine game that charges money, Havok needs to be paid a licensing fee of $25,000 for the physics engine. You will need to pay this fee up front before making your game available for sale on Steam.

Wait, so did PROSPEKT's creator really pay 25,000 $ for the physics engine and the fee for the RAD tools? And Black Mesa devs too? What the.. Holy...

Of course he did. Do you think you can licence those things for free?
NvC_DmN_CH Jul 23, 2017 @ 10:51pm
Not for free, but is that price worth it? You have to be a... businessman to make a mod for half life 2 that you can sell. So to have money, you have to have money first. What is this.

It may be possible that there are some alternative licensing options not mentioned in the documentation.

I thought that the BMS devs got special permission straight from Valve to release the game on Greenlight. Or that's what I remember reading when it was announced.

Yes, looks like it.

Does that mean they didnt pay any licenses or something, and valve did it for them?

They still had to pay. Valve just allowed them to make a game about their own Intellectual Property, aka Half Life 1.
